Mathas, Fiend Seeker

Legendary Creature — Vampire

Menace

At the beginning of your end step, put a bounty counter on target creature an opponent controls. For as long as that creature has a bounty counter on it, it has "When this creature dies, each opponent draws a card and gains 2 life." (Dying is being put into the graveyard from the battlefield, tokens are put into the graveyard before they cease to exist.)

Speaking of recurrent short-term profit spike (while homogenizing an eternal format)..I'm really surprised I haven't seen a WUBRG "best of" card come out for this set. Where is the WUBRG cash cow to sell all those $$ WUBRG mana bases for the next new no-personality WUBRG money grab?

I will consider it, at least, a mechanical victory if this set has no WUBRG cash grab card.... Just wait, I will have just said my piece & the next card out will be a game breaking WUBRG "best-of" treasure commander, literally named: "cash cow"

I think there is some aptitude to the article when you think about the amount of out of place phrases & actions based cards that don't really seem all too "magicky". Am I actually casting a spell? or am I just spending mana to tell someone to "reach for the sky" or "There's snake in my boot!"... Those cutesy "Westernisms" should be surrounded by quotes at the bottom of the cards IMO. And why are all these characters speach patterns suddenly changing?

That being said, I love scorpo-dragons. I just feel that they jacked up my Western motif that I was kind of pumped for. How do you not make REALLY fun multiplayer mechanics for a western theme? You are talking about prime chaos politic setting & doing NONE of that. Nothing with bounty counters Mathas, Fiend Seeker, nothing that forces a "Mexican standoff" situation, nothing that forces duels, minimal forced action.

GoldenAgeBatman on Pattern Recognition #236 - Threat …

This is why I've decided to make my Edgar Markov deck run a different commander (Mathas, Fiend Seeker) and run Edgar as more of a "secret" commander. That way, people don't immediately jump on me as an obvious threat and it gives me time to build up my board state.

Fuzjo on Mathas-matical

thenotcher I didn't know that at first, but I think bounty hunter will still be helpful in the deck. Even though using Bounty Hunter to put bounty tokens on creatures won't apply the Mathas, Fiend Seeker effect, it'll still be a quick way to kill creatures that already have the Mathas effect on them. Thanks for the heads up though!

I have also replaced Oros, the Avenger with Mathas, Fiend Seeker , which reduced the average converted mana cost of this deck even further from 4.16 to 4.11, because, as much as I wish to have all ten primordial dragons in my EDH decks, Oros simply does not work with the strategy of this deck, but Mathas very much does, so he is a welcome addition to this deck.

Timan, Agent of the People

Legendary Creature - Human Assassin

First Strike

At the beginning of each players end step, that play may choose a creature other than Timan, Agent of the People without a bounty counter on it. Put a bounty counter on that creature. If its your endstep, choose target creature with a bounty counter at random then destroy that creature and remove bounty counters from all creatures.

Just another name off the list

3/2

Create another card that uses bounty counters. For reference, the existing cards that care about bounty counters are Bounty Hunter , Mathas, Fiend Seeker and Chevill, Bane of Monsters .

Kjellma on "Quest" Decks

I am making two decks of a similar style, they "give quests" in the way that they will allow people rewards for finishing the "quest."

One had Karona, False God as the commander and focuses on Grothama, All-Devouring style ideas that either give rewards or make people want to kill the creature for some reason. Pursued Whale is another creature I am using to achieve this idea. This deck is more of a joke, hug, or fun deck style.

The second uses Saskia the Unyielding and Mathas, Fiend Seeker to be a more aggressive style of these quests. I am already finding curses to make other players fight.

What I need is more creatures that use something like Grothama, All-Devouring to either give rewards or make others fight to give rewards.

I am not sure if I want to use a lot of goad in the first deck, but I am willing to use it in the more aggro deck if there are enough good creatures to make it even more worth the others fighting each other to achieve these "quests."

Any help would be appreciated.

Fallerup on Ardenn and Ankle Shanker's bottled curses

@kpres I know, I notice that with Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist too. To answer your question, I just built this deck, I haven't bought or tested it yet. using him as a commander is a fair shout, you can pair him with Vial smasher like you suggested or maybe even other colours like blue and black or something, with partners there are so many options but by cutting red you do miss out on some great things, not sure what good curses and stuff are in blue or other colours. I just looked at Ghen when I saw him and thought "hey, I already have a curse deck that runs Mathas, Fiend Seeker, I can just replace the commander and its so much better". I didn't think about the partners at all. fair shout for sure, it is an option, but for now I put Ardenn in the 99.
