WHOLE SET SPOILED

What do you love?

What do you Hate?

DaCeltics says... #2

I hate all the Gruul hate, there are so many cards that punish a Gruul player for attacking. Same thing for Boros, but it is definitely more prominent against Gruul

I didn;t see any cipher that really caught my eye the way Frontline Medic , Elusive Krasis , or Thrull Parasite did. It really not been explored thoroughlyu enough and i hope this happens in dragons maze.

I hate that I can't figure out what I want to do with Orzhov yet; Life-gain with life-drain, kill focus with crypt ghast abuse, discard creature pinging, or Flicker with drain/gain life etb abilities.

I have to say that I'm disappointed on the Pillory of the Sleepless reprint for 1 more mana. I was hoping for the same mana-cost. I have to admit that the card:Debtors' Knell X spell will be quite interesting to play (especially with Crypt Ghast available.

Does anyone else think that Wizards printed more cards for milling then they did for Cipher? I mean, most cipher spells aren't that great. Undercity Plague really entices me, but having the opponent mill until they hit a land is pretty bonkers compared to others. I mean, even the Duskmantle Guildmage focuses on milling as compared to focusing on Cipher. Lol!

I agree. The dimir is meantto be played n limited as mill, but in constructed with cipher.

Oh I see. I suppose with cards like Crypt Ghast on turn 4, Dimir might have some Competitive play as cipher. What's your take on constructed Orzhov? Has anyone else had any ideas on what standard B/W might focus on?

I'm personally thinking B/W/G would be decent with a focus on mid-range lifegain. The Vizkopa Guildmage makes the strategy viable, as well as Chalice of Life  Flip /Death. The main focus would be lifelink creatures, trostani, Obzedat, and extort.

Of course, B/W/U (Esper) will also be a force to reckoned with. They will have more counter and sweeper spells, extort, some cipher (?) and unblockable creatures.

I personally can't decide which will be better.

I think esper control can be very big. It has extort to hold off the biggest, fastest decks, as well as Blind Obedience which hurts aggro a ton.

I stared longer and harder at Illness in the Ranks than any other previously unspoiled card in Gatecrash. That is some aggressive ghostbusting happening to Lingering Souls , etc..

I'm liking UB control with the sweet new counterspell and Diabolic Edict

While I'll be playing Orzhiv for the prerelease, Dimir is just plain awesome in terms of coolness. I know I'm going to be missing out on all the mini-Mind Funeral s flying around the place. Simic obviously are pretty cool too.

Boros scares the crap out of me; I swear their keyword has more cards for it than anyone else! And Wojek Halberdiers is a common?!? Jeezus, dealing with that on top of Skyknight Legionnaire is going to be a pain in the taint.

Favourite card of the set has to be Mortus Strider for badassness. Not necessarily good or groundbreaking, but for badass colours, art and name it wins like Sluiceway Scorpion wins RTR. Does anyone like it? Or Corpse Blockade or Rust Scarab, for that matter?

Being a Dimir fanboy, I got excited for Cipher pretty early on, and cards like Consuming Aberration and Lazav, Dimir Mastermind . I'm the slightest bit disappointed that Glimpse the Unthinkable wasn't reprinted, but lucky for me, one of the new Cipher cards (Paranoid Delusions) has a similar effect. Also excited for the Keyrune being unblockable and keeping Cipher'd cards.

I'm surprisingly intrigued by a fairly simple common.

Bioshift - "Move any number of +1/+1 counters from target creature onto another target creature with the same controller."

Can help Evolve decks become Explosive.... not that they won't be explosive enough on their own.

Can be used for Undying assistance.

As an instant cast, it can be used as a huge combat trick.

...there's all sorts of things I can think of for this.

Immortal servitude in esper control with Augur of Bolas and Snapcaster Mage ..

Or in GB aggro with Lotleth Troll , Pack Rat and Strangleroot Geist and a freedom to discard all your 2 drops whenever you please..

Just saying.

For limited, I'm thinking either Simic or Boros.

I'm thinking Biomass Mutation seems like it could be fun. Maybe a GWU with populate or GWB with Korozda Guildmage .

Dimir is going to be the go to deck for the pre release. Consuming Aberration will dominate games and there are a ton of support commons and uncommons that mill.

Yeah, I am pretty sure my local prerelease will be a millfest as so many people I have talked to are going to go Dimir, including myself. Although I have to say I was planning on going Dimir before the first card was ever spoiled. I love the combination of U/B.
