looking for a poltical commander.

Would prefer an unorthodox one.

Give me some suggestions and tips.

Everything is political when your deck is 50% ramp 50% removal

Pramikon, Sky Rampart could be good since he is a sort of political piece in itself, sending creatures to have to go through someone before getting to you.

Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer would be a little similar and is definitely one that isn't seen often.

Zedruu the Greathearted is one that you can give gifts to your opponents, but can just as easily be an 'evil santa' at the table.

Gahiji, Honored One could be good since it is also themed around getting attacks to go elsewhere.

There is also Queen Marchesa and while I don't think she is much of a political commander she does have a nice flavor for the political commander theme.

Phelddagrif has entered the chat. I don't have much experience brewing political or group hug decks, but Phelddagrif is the poster boy for the archetype. Going Bant or Jeskai is what I'd do for a group hug deck, and I'd run Mardu or Grixis if you want a "do this or bad stuff happens" type of deck. For specific examples, I agree with everything Joe_Ken_ said, and Zurgo Helmsmasher would be a decent commander for the Mardu strat I mentioned.

Thantis, the Warweaver & Marisi, breaker of coils. Marisi is a little less political by nature since he is taking away more choices, but there are still plenty of political cards.

Both of the above decks are fun to "play with fire" a bit. Examples: Oath of Druids = play anti-control & goad opponents bigs, hope for key removal if something like Nyxbloom Ancient happens :) ... Thieves' Auction has actually won me games when one player is inevitably out of control then you take their best, & redistribute the rest.

I hear Kenrith, the Returned King can be used for politics and well... he is a king so... there's that.

TriusMalarky: Did you say Toshiro Umezawa?

I've not much experience with politicals, but Thantis seems super-fun indeed.

I've read about a Rakdos the Defiler deck before on EDHREC where the author suggested using Daddy Rak to dethrone the lead player and put yourself in an underdog-position. Definitely unusual politics.

I mean Negan, The Cold-Blooded will definitely tussle some jimmies in some play groups. I've brewed up an opponents choice deck and I'm fairly satisfied with how it came out.

I believe that both Edric, Spymaster of Trest and Gisela, Blade of Goldnight are great generals for a political deck, since they both encourage one's opponents to attack each other.
