A question for the Token Inclined: Saprolings?

Commander Deck Help forum

With the recent addition of the C16 decks, my mind has been flooded with all sorts of deck ideas thanks to the partners. Of my thoughts, the one that grabbed me the most was doing tokens with Saskia, which is the deck I bought. I decided that Saprolings would be a really fun and cool token/tribal deck! In my theory crafting on such, I have reached a dilemma:

Saskia the Unyielding or Tana, the Bloodsower and Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa???

On one hand I get access to Black, which gives me cards like Ghave, Guru of Spores and Necrogenesis and cards that can benefit from the tokens dying/saccing, and Saskia's fantastic ability.

On the other hand I have commanders that not only produce the saprolings, but give them great evasion, plus the deck becomes a little more focus and consistent with only three colors.

I am not versed in token decks, so I wanted to ask others before I began to build. Thank you!

Have you considered pairing Tana, the Bloodsower with Tymna the Weaver or Ravos, Soultender? I feel like when you are going with tokens you're going to want to play with Eldrazi Monument/Akroma's Memorial which kind of makes Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa a little pointless. Having two commanders with the same CMC feels a little more clunky to me as well but that might just be me.

As far as Saskia the Unyielding is concerned, I'm not a huge fan since in tokens you could always drop Purphoros, God of the Forge or use something like Goblin Bombardment to get damage through more consistently if needed.

The biggest issue token decks have is consistent card advantage outside of Skullclamp or riskier, Fecundity, Shamanic Revelation, Regal Force, Collective Consciousness (i personally dont like those abilities as they are very dependant on your board state and favor towards "win more" cards). dlamars is right - i agree that your best option would be Tana, the Bloodsower and Tymna the Weaver. Nothing wrong with Saksia tho, she's cool too but wont be as strong. If i splashed black into my naya tokens deck that's what I'd do :)

Collective Unconscious is what he meant to put, btw.

Podma101,
If I was going to stick with three-color, I'd probably go with Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder + Tana, the Bloodsower ... they both lend themselves to a little bit of Voltron, and Double Strike is just such a joy for the Timmy in me :-)

you can still use Night Soil if you drop black

there's a lot of saproling stuff

it almost makes you forget it's a name someone just kind of made up on the spot

Hm, I have to be honest I agree with everyone! I certainly think that I will go with Tana and Tymna then! That way I get access to black and have the token generator, plus I get to have fun with the partners! Thank you all so much for the help and suggestions!

If I did decide to go three color that's actually a really good point clayperce, and I think I would go that route.

Thank you for the clarification Raging_Squiggle, I was too lazy to look up the real card XD.

@UkieMage I'm pretty sure you could save yourself 50 dollars and 4 mana by just using Hardened Scales over Doubling Season?
