Standard Midrange Gitrog Monster deck. If you like it please give it an upvote! All comments appreciated! I want this deck to be airtight and ready for Gameday!
This deck was born of me really really wanting
The Gitrog Monster
to make ripples in standard. Alas, it has made more of a ripple in Modern and Commander.
Allow me to walk you through what me, and a friend of mine: Twitchmiester have come up with to make Gitrog an engine for cycling and drawing through your deck, triggering delirium consistently.
We have
The Gitrog Monster
, at 6/6 for 5 with deathtouch, he has a body that is difficult to deal with outside of destroy/exile cards. His downside, which we plan to make an upside, is that he makes you sacrifice a land every upkeep. However, he also draws you a card off of EVERY land card put into your graveyard from ANYWHERE.
Here is a quick rundown of how it can work:
Say we have a sample hand:
Mountain, Forestx2, Dead Weight
And we have this board:
Deathcap Cultivator,
Avaricious Dragon
,
The Gitrog Monster
End of turn:
Discard hand off
Avaricious Dragon
, Draw 1 off of
The Gitrog Monster
Upkeep:
Sacrifice a land, draw a card off of
The Gitrog Monster
Draw step:
Draw two, given
Avaricious Dragon
Main phase:
4 new cards in hand!
Having been playtesting this deck it is actually quite a bit of fun to play. Avaricious Dragon
+
The Gitrog Monster
makes it so easy to get delirium, so you can run your Deathcap Cultivator,
Mindwrack Demon
, and
Autumnal Gloom
. Land sacrifice and discard is turned into an upside with Gitrog, making it great to play
Magmatic Insight
, discard one, draw three, for one mana? Sure!
Merciless Resolve
at end of your turn, I sack a land, draw three? Sure!
We think that we have a pretty good base deck so far, but it is far from done in any case. The main issues that I am having is making sure to consistently get to midgame. The inclusion of Languish, Dead Weight, and Grasp of Darkness is mainly there to help keep me in the game until my engine is built. Any suggestions would be welcomed and I would love to see what anyone might think would be good using this strategy. Thanks in advanced!
