Game Plan

As in any storm deck, you want to cast a lot of spells in the same turn using cards like Pyromancer Ascension and Past in Flames to cast spells more than once, eventually using Grapeshot to hit your opponent for lethal.

Breakdown of Main Deck:

Card Advantage/Filtering

- Act on Impulse : The most efficient way of being able to have more spells to cast. The only real card advantage in the deck.

- Faithless Looting and Magmatic Insight : Card filtering, Faithless Looting can sometimes be cast for it's original price from the graveyard with help from Locket of Yesterdays .

Mana Generators

- Runaway Steam-Kin : The best reason to be mono red and by far the best mana generator in the deck. If you have it on the battlefield when you start storming it can sometimes generate 12 or more mana.

- Pyretic Ritual and Desperate Ritual : Both add one red and add to your storm count.

- Manamorphose : Technically doesn't add mana, but with help from Runaway Steam-Kin and Locket of Yesterdays it can add mana while remaining card neutral.

Spell Doublers

- Pyromancer Ascension : Since many of the spells in this deck are four-ofs, you're going to end up casting a lot of the same spells, and doubling any mana producing spell or Act on Impulse can make it much easier to win.

- Past in Flames : May seem expensive at first, but after discarding 1 or 2 with Faithless Looting while having a Locket of Yesterdays can make it cost 3 mana or less. Being able to cast everything in your graveyard again, especially if that includes a Grapeshot makes it much more likely you'll win.

Spell Discounters

- Runaway Steam-Kin : Although it doesn't technically make your spells cheaper, it essentially adds one red for every red spell you cast. It can be better than Goblin Electromancer or Baral, Chief of Compliance , which are found in traditional U/R storm decks, because it makes one mana spells like Faithless Looting essentially free.

- Locket of Yesterdays : For the same reason described under Pyromancer Ascension , Pyretic Ritual and Desperate Ritual can both turn into red Dark Ritual s. Act on Impulse and Past in Flames which have 2 and 3 generic in their cost respectively also become easier to cast.

Finishers

- Grapeshot : Deals a lot of damage to your opponent. Note that you don't specifically need 20 storm to win, because you can flash it back with Past in Flames .

- Empty the Warrens : Bring in from the sideboard when your opponent is likely to have Leyline of Sanctity .

Sideboard

- Blood Moon : Bring in against Tron and 3 color control decks.

- Simian Spirit Guide : Bring in with Blood Moon to have a higher chance of casting it turn one or 2, when it's most effective.

- Leyline of Sanctity : Mostly for decks with Thoughtseize or Inquisition of Kozilek , but you also bring it in against Burn.

- Leyline of the Void : For graveyard decks, like dredge.

- Lightning Bolt : For Infect or creature based combo decks.

- Empty the Warrens : Bring in in matchups where you're likely to see Leyline of Sanctity
