Sacrifices to The Beast and The Bug

Modern Competitive RBW (Mardu) Zombie

Dannyel

I've updated this description many times over the past two years i've been playing this homebrew, the deck just continues to improve. All suggestions are appreciated.

Wincons:

This deck finishes strong with Gurmag Angler Nantuko Husk and Greater Gargadon. These are the guys who are gonna swing in. These guys neeeeeed Gravecrawler or Nether Traitor these are the two most important cards because they recur from the graveyard for only . there are no other modern legal cards like them. So they are the fodder for the wincons, each wincon creature requires sacrificed creatures. This or just beatdown and recur if no wincons are drawn. Odds of getting a wincon creature by T3 = 64%, this number only goes up.

Inquisition of Kozilek - This deck is based on hand control, IoK is your basic modern discard, also great T1 play. Note it's better to take out the harder to deal with creatures so IoK may not be the best play T1 b/c whatever 1 drop they play probably isn't going to be too hard to deal with.

Collective Brutality - Very targeted discard, not as good at forced discard as the previous two but much more flexible. It's needed for it's ability to discard our own hand, unfortunately has the opposite of synergy when discarding Bridge from Below to kill a creature. This card is great against burn.

Anger of the Gods - sweeper that synergies with Bridge from Below and wincon creatures. Sometimes difficult to get the mana to pay for it.

Gravecrawler - playing t1 ain't too bad, especially getting in for 2 on turn 2 is helpful. I used to run more zombies but in my humble yet objectively correct opinion there are only two good modern zombie cards, gravecrawler and tidehollow sculler. Anyways the main purpose is sac over and over. good card to pitch to discard.

Nether Traitor - in some ways better than gravecrawler in some ways worse, i probably cast nether traitor from hand more than i do gravecrawler, weird, maybe it's the haste + shadow, anyways feeds the beasts and the bugs like it should.

Faithless Looting - always 4 of, i want to start collecting data on win rates on games i play faithless looting and which turn i do versus games i never see it. This card offers such card advantage it's madness (see what i did there). Also maybe not the best T1 play, if you wait til T2 you've seen more cards and have more options. Sometimes it's worth it to hold on to FL because you're unsure of having another discard outlet.

Collective Brutality - see above, but similarly only so many discard outlets in this deck, think before use.

Both Anger of the Gods - total meta call right now, but God it's helpful against affinity/dredge/elves/ decks that over commit real quick.

4th Bridge from Below - you really don't want to get stuck with two of these guys just sitting there, dead in your hand, on the other hand it's nice to be able to use one well, i'm running 4 but i think 3 is totally appropriate.

You may be wondering what am i talking about commitment to 10 permanents?

I see you are, look you know what is so good about Greater Gargadon? It's not that he's the best T1 play (actually that probably is his best quality), it's that he has haste. It's that he is one of the best last turn plays. You can have greater gargadon in hand and cast him for then proceed to sac 10 lands and creatures and bring him in to play that very turn and swing in for the game. NO ONE, NOOO ONE i say, ever sees it coming. Keep this principle in mind, it wins games.

Bridge from Below - is not needed in this deck however getting one into the yard gives a huge advantage, so much so that I’ve been able to win with Nantuko Husk on turn 4 multiple times, this also makes it possible to recur Nether Traitor, normally you need two nether traitors for them to trigger each other at instant speed but this is also possible with 1 traitor and 1 bridge. Also not optimal but you can use Gravecrawler with Desecration Elemental if bridge is in the yard.

Because Anger of the Gods has trouble casting sometimes i've calculated the odds

Odds of by T3; on the play = .496 (.407+.593.15) on the draw = .556 (.467+.533.167)

Odds of T1 on the play .601

Bontu's Last Reckoning should be sideboard but tappedout doesn't recognize it as legal.
