INTRODUCTION
This is a deck that started being a super cheap FNM deck, that ended up being a not-so-cheap, but still budget Competitive Deck.
My first goal was to build a competitive deck with the less money possible and improve it by playing, winning and trading. Taking some cards I already owned, like the 2 Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker and the Dragon Whisperer, I ended spending less than 20$ on it, what seems little money for a competitive deck to me.
But it turned out to be that the locals of the city I live in (Barcelona) have a very competitive meta and I wasn't winning any matches with the budget version of the deck. That's why I concluded I needed to put more money on the deck and abandon the objective of improving it little by little because it was imposible.
The last time I went to the store to play, some kind people lend me some value card (3x Abbot of Keral Keep and 3x Eidolon of the Great Revel). I ended 3-1 that day and I decided it was really worth it to put 30-40$ on the deck to improve it.
So this ended up being an around 60$ competitive Red Deck (which is still very little compared to some Abzan o Jeskai builds).
THE DECK
This particular build is a little different to the ones I usually see on competitive tournaments like GPs, PTs or SCG events. Normally, RDW I see run around 22 to 24 creatures and heavy burn spells like 4x Exquisite Firecraft and 4x Stoke the Flames.
I opted fore a more burn kinda build, with 18 creatures, 18 burn spells and 4 other spells (which are 3 bumpers and the one Outpost Siege. Also, from the 18 burnspells, only the 2 Exquisite Firecraft have higher CMC than 2, that's because I want a really low curve with fast burnspells to take profit from Prowess more easily. Exquisite Firecraft is a card that I want to have un mid and late game, I don't wanna be stucked with 2 of them in my opening hand.
For the same reason I only run 2 Abbot of Keral Keep instead of the full playset like everybody else. That's because I see it more like a utility card than an agressive one, I don't wanna be casting turn two Abbots, I see it more like a mid game card, when you have enough mana to cast anything you exile with it.
The main reason I'm going for this heavy burn based strategy is because I noticed that I was better positioned it most of the pairings if I ran some kinda control strategi, blowing uf my opponent's first threads and attacking for 2 or 3 every turn. If I play against a control deck I may sideboard out the creature only burn spells for a pair of Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker, one or two Harness by Force and the Crater's Claws which is an amazing finisher in matches that go long.
One Goblin Heelcutter fits really well in this deck. It hits for 3 for 3 mana every turn, it avoids sorcery speed removal and also (and the most important thing about it) it's ability may help a lot in situations when that one Abzan dekc has one Rihno, or that Heroic deck has one huge creature blocking.
