Lingering Souls —June 29, 2012

Going to do some testing with black mana and Lingering Souls.

Color fixing shouldn't be too hard, with Birds of Paradise and Druids' Repository.

Any suggestions now that I'm splashing black?

I definitely considered Mikaeus, the Lunarch because of how cheap he can be to cast. But in most cases I just saved him until I had a Doubling Season out to make the most of him. He was pushed out to make room for more token generation like Awakening Zone . Gavony Township does what he does at a bit higher cost, but is only used late game when I have enough of a board presence and a Doubling Season for it to be worth it. card:Cathars' Crusade also does what Mikaeus, the Lunarch does, except it's totally explosive and tutorable.

Doubling Season also doubles the amount of starting loyalty for a planeswalker. that way Elspeth Tirel instantly becomes a board wipe. doubling season is broke as crap.

I think that's the main reason they didn't want to reprint it outright and we got Parallel Lives instead.

If you think Doubling Season makes Elspeth Tirel broke, Just wait till Ajani Caller of the Pride comes out. This deck is going to get even more stupid.

I dig the combos and synergy!!! If you could speed it up a turn or two with more ramp. take out some of the 1x ofs to make it more consistent, the Mycoloth would stomp, bro! Craterhoof Behemoth would be an AWESOME finisher!!!! He'd do well as a 1x of.

I playtested this against deck:please-beat-this-deck. It did well, but my deck is a turn faster at a consistent turn 5 win. I do like the token decks!!!!

+1 keep tweaking!

I know I said to take out the 1x ofs and add a 1x of... lol. As a creature, a 1x isn't so bad. Especially w/ the CMC. While stuff like card:Cathars' Crusade and Entreat the Angels are good, there are cards in Modern that are better, such as Nest Invader or even Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip , should you ever choose to go Naya. Either way, more copies of cards equals greater consistency.

I think the numbers are fine where they are, to be honest.Anything that is less than 3 is that way because I don't want any more than 1 of them a game really.

card:Cathars' Crusade was made for this deck I find, I'm considering adding another.

Once Ajani, Caller of the Pride comes out I'm going to do a lot of testing with him, If he's as great for this deck as I think he is I might run a complete set. Entreat the Angels is probably on its way out.

Might start testing with Soul Warden or something similar for life gain to buy myself a bit of time and aid with Ajani, Caller of the Pride 's ultimate.

Intangible Virtue cause having armies of vigilant dudes is just awesome plus it is very cheap to cast.

I've thought a lot about Intangible Virtue . You'd think it'd be a auto-include in a deck like this, But I actually don't think it's as useful to me as just more token generation.

My guys almost always get a buff from Gavony Township or card:Cathars' Crusade, and Intangible Virtue doesn't have any synergy with Doubling Season , it would make card:Druids' Repository a little better, but I'm usually not afraid to swing with all my guys to get the charge anyways.

I'll put it in the maybe-board and do some tests with it.

blinking abilities + mycoloth = stupidity. Cloudshift is amazing for this deck. mycoloth hits for a turn or two, generates tokens, end of opponents turn - cloudshift him to eat everything he's spawned to put out even more tokens.

I don't think blinking is really the answer in this deck, I'll usually end up casting Mycoloth 's devour for 4-12, which is plenty with Devour 2. it might be useful to keep peices on the board, But unless I add cards like Cloudgoat Ranger or Captain of the Watch , but I think Primordial Hydra and Mycoloth are big enough threats.
