Fight Club

Modern Budget

Balinor5

I threw this deck together after the DoT Pre-Release. Like other decks with the same name, its focused around "Fight" abilities... Its fun to play, and easy on the wallet. Lets talk about the features.

The mainstay of this deck (and reason for its creation) is the Foe-Razer Regent. Sure it's costly at 7 mana, but with the acceleration green gives, I've had it out on turn 4 several times. What I like about this card is: 1) It fights right out of the gate and 2) it grants 2 +1/+1 counters to your creatures that fight. When you have more than one of them on the battlefield, the counters stack up quickly.

I decided to splash red initially for the Sarkhan's Triumph. If the deck features the Foe-Razer, then I needed a way to get him. This card does that beautifully. But opening up red gave me plenty of other options as well... probably more than I am capitalizing on.

It opened up Dragonlord's Servant, which is a sturdy 1/3 for early rounds, and helps lower your mana costs for the Foe-Razer.

Getting back to the mana ramp, we all know Elvish Mystic is a staple to getting 3 mana at turn 2. Which allows for the mana ramp work horse: Cultivate. Cultivate is also the reason I went Forest heavy, since I could pull the Mountains.

This deck needed some early survival, so what better than our good friend Deadly Recluse. He'll stop just about anything willing to come your way early in the game. Mid-game or Late-game his deathtouch combo's nicely with the multiple "fight" cards in the deck for creature removal.

Finding I was lacking on mid-range creatures, DoT offered up a fine solution in Harbinger of the Hunt. While he's a bit weak with 3 toughness, he packs a punch whether he attacks or fights. And with the mana ramp, his ability to ping for damage becomes quite useful late game.

I threw in a copy of Thunderbreak Regent just to add a layer of protection for my dragons.

There's a host of "fight" cards Prey Upon, Savage Punch and Epic Confrontation, which really don't need any explanation... However, I did throw one copy Setessan Tactics. Its cheap, and if you have multiple Foe-Razers out late game, you can use the strive ability instigate a brawl and let the counters accumulate.

When I found I was running out of cards, I removed some of the other "fight cards" and replaced with Harmonize. A great card to refill your hand.

Lastly, I decided to put in a couple Bow of Nylea. Its useful for granting +1/+1 counters in a pinch, or for gaining 3 life every turn or for doing 2 damage to a flying creature, or for... This card does it all.

Weaknesses: If found a couple weaknesses with this deck.

1) Creature removal. What good is a 6/7 dragon when it dies so easy. There are some green instants such as Vines of Vastwood that grant hexproof, so I may have to look into that.

2) Protection from Green. Not many people play it, but when i faced a deck that did, i was powerless. I have red so a couple Fireball or Lightning Bolt could easily solve that problem, but I'd have to figure out what to remove.

3) Artifacts and Enchantments. Both green and red offer ways to get rid of these, but I didn't make room for them. Perhaps a couple Reclamation Sage might do the trick.

I'm definitely open to any input and/or suggestions. I know there are many "Fight" decks out there, but I tried to base this one around Dragons.
