I play at a small LGS so my meta isn't what I would find in a open field. I am attempting to tune this deck for a bigger event or MTGO.

2-1

Game 1 vs 8-Rack 2-0

Match 1: I had a early swiftspear and kept swinging throughout the game. I would hold lands after I got to 2 to prolong the game long enough for me to close it out with swiftspear and burn spells.

Match 2: Both me and my opponent mull to 5. Fortunately I kept a decent hand full of lands and two swiftspears. I landed one early before it was removed. I kept going through my burn spells and removed their rack with a Revelry. Eventually I closed the unexciting game.

Game 2 Infect 2-1

Match 1: I got a t1 Swiftspear and they got a Hierarch. I removed the Hierarch and Swung keeping a mana open on t2. They play a elf and I remove it. I then play a few manamorphose and swing, they scoop.

Match 2: I have a bit more reactive removal heavy deck post sideboard. However I mulled to 5 to have lands and they had a strong hand. I lost t3.

Match 3: This had a similar beginning to match 1, however they had some gas. I pathed their Moth and removed most of their threats. I landed a t3 Mentor and it stuck around for a few manamorphose to create a army. They scooped.

Game 3 Stompy 1-2

Match 1: I had a strong hand and landed and stuck a t2 Pyromancer. They kept attacking but I drew enough Helix's to survive and swing with my army of tokens. Simple aggro game.

Match 2: They curved nicely into a Strangleroot which I pathed on t2. This ramped them into a Renegade and Steel Leaf. The game didn't last long after that.

Match 3: Another back and forth but they removed my Pyromancer and traded with my Swiftspear. I ended up being out aggro'd.

I went 2-1 and game in second place. Overall I did pretty well besides a bad call on the Strangleroot.

Wouldn't Monastery Mentor make a lot of sense in this build?

I originally had Monastery Mentor in the main 60, and it was extremely useful for any midrange or control decks. The card pulled a lot of weight for those match up's being able to create prowess monks on cast triggers; not needing the spell to resolve. However at 3cmc it is a bit slow against combo decks, and aggro decks. My LGS is also mostly aggro so I am trying out a extra Bedlam Reveler in place of Mentor, for the card draw mostly. I did move mentor into the side for the time being while I test out Reveler though.

Have you considered a singleton Triumph of the Hordes sideboard for that one guy playing troll worship/sisters/finks combo?

Seriously though, this deck looks polished. I really like it. Not seeing any changes I'd want.

Fiery Justice! I see it in your maybeboard so let me be another vote for moving it to the mainboard. There's a reason Swords to Plowshares is considered just about the best removal spell ever - getting rid of creatures for cheap in exchange for them gaining a bit of life is ALWAYS worth it. Any damage you don't need to send at creatures can be used to reduce the life they're gaining too. 3 mana to kill 4 spirit tokens and give your opponent 4 life? WORTH. And in those inevitable games where you draw more lands than you want, Fiery Justice + Atarka's Command is a nasty 8 damage for 5 mana!

Whether or not your decide to include it, good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the advice on Fiery Justice! Currently it is in my decks sideboard filling out the last pieces while I get my Leylines. However you are completely right in how the card takes care of tokens, always worth it. Fun fact I originally included it in my side as some spicy tech against deaths shadow. But I also did find out what you were saying in how it is good removal too. I don't think I'll mainboard it, but might replace Tamanoa with it permenently as that is a flex slot currently.

Instead of Tamanoa in sideboard do Soulfire Grand Master.

That's actually a much better option then Tamanoa, thanks for the tip, I'll swap them out!

Awesome deck! Really creative concept executed well. A couple ideas: Gaddock Teeg, Blessed Alliance, Blind Obedience, and Chained to the Rocks.

Thanks for the suggestions TKDbeast I appreciate it! I have actually thought about Gaddock Teeg and plan on testing him in the sideboard at some point. He seems like a great way to deal with Tron, Ad Naus, and CoCo. But besides that doesn't seem to do to much. As for Blessed Alliance the modes aren't to relevant, as well as the escalate would rarely be used as we want our spell count higher and run fewer lands. Chained to the Rocks is a decent choice for this deck, but Path is better in this case cause it is faster and I can use it to ramp if I need. Blind Obedience is just bit to slow for this style of deck, wanting t2 for playing Pyromancer and t3+ for casting spells to start to close the game. Authority of the Consuls might be something to consider for creature heavy match ups though.

deck looks to easy to be shut down by chalice of the void or by explosives. I like the build.

deadman12 you bring up a excellent point with Chalice of the Void being a bit of a problem. Generally speaking a chalice on 2 definitely gives this deck a rough time. However we still have the other option of attacking with Tokens and Swiftspear. This works cause Chalice counters our spells, but it doesn't prevent casting so we still get cast triggers off of our spells. However if you have any ideas on mitigating the effect of Chalice I would love to hear them. Engineered Explosives is a bit less of a issue as we don't run many permanents, but it is a free board wipe against our tokens. In that case we fall back on more of a burn plan while we generate more tokens. Thanks for your input, it is much appreciated and helpful!

Zakkaery Thanks for the response! Don't forget that Gaddock Teeg is also very effective against control decks. So long as he's out, your opponents can't wrath the board, cast Planeswalkers, or Cryptic Command.

Zakkaery says... #15

TKDbeast That's a great point, the deck hates wrath effects and control. Teeg helps against enough strong decks to definitely warrant a spot in the sideboard. Thanks again for the suggestion, Cheers!

This just seems worse than mardu. You lose black hand disruption, and gain what from green? Atarka's command? Thoughtseize effects are the only reason mardu even stands a chance in a lot of matchups

This is an amalgam. I love it. Keep deckbuilding fun!

metalevolence Yes this deck isn't as strong as Mardu which is a tier 1 deck. My goal is to make this a valid option for anyone wanting to utilise more of a burn package with pyromancer. What this deck lacks in discard and card advantage, it makes up for it by increasing it's speed. This version of pyro is meant to be more aggro that can go midgame. Don't think of it as swapping black for green, but removing black to make room for more white, and splashing green for answers and utility. Lastly Mardu has been optimized while this is still in testing. I generally do good at FNM, and am waiting to get MTGO to truly test the deck. I believe it could become a solid tier 3 or possibly even tier 2 deck in the right meta. Thanks for the input, if you have any suggestions to make this deck better or closer in strength they would be appreciated.

Thanks for the advice itachi45, only reason I don't post results regularly is cause I play at a small lgs with 8-9 ppl for fnm, however the decks are decently diverse (mostly fair decks with some linear) and everyone has 2-3 modern decks. I'll post some results based off of my last fnm when I have the chance. I usually go 3-1, or 2-2 depending on my mistakes though.
