The hope is to build a strong early to mid game presense with Favored Hoplite , Battlewise Hoplite , and Phalanx Leader as the backbone. Ideally I slap an Ordeal of Thassa and an Aqueous Form on something very early. Black allows me to play agent of fates who is crucial in removing big threats or even an early Caryotid or something. I am also finding synergy with Retribution of the Ancients with all of the counters that I end up with. In the right situation, with enough black mana, I can remove several nice sized threats in one motion. If I have an Eternal Thirst on something, than it gives the Retribution engine a bit more gas. Retraction Helix is also MVP in this deck at either saving one of my guys from removal or bouncing back a threat while triggering heroic.

Just threw the sideboard on here a few minutes ago. Not very thought out. I added Boon of Erebos and Feat of Resistance to counteract early game removal which cripples me. Akroan Skyguard also gives me a bit more evasion if I am outmanned in the ground game.

Please let me know how you feel! I want to keep it Esper for sure, but do have some hesitation with Phalanx Leaders 2 white mana cost, as well as the effectiveness of Mogis's Maurader. Was thinking about running a few Herald of Torment in his place.
