Darksteel Sentinel

Artifact Creature — Golem

Flash (You may cast this spell any time you could cast an instant.) Vigilance Darksteel Sentinel is indestructible. (Lethal damage and effects that say "destroy" don't destroy it. If its toughness is 0 or less, it's still put into its owner's graveyard.)

I think you have a really interesting deck here and I absolutely love your commander pick! I'm really curious to see how you hone it as time goes on :) So far, do you think you are going to lean it further down either Samurai or Indestructible themes or keep it around where it is now?

I'm not much help in terms of Samurai but I do have some ideas if you are interested in adding more Indestructible-based pieces: Stuffy Doll , Creepy Doll , Colossus of Akros , Darksteel Sentinel , and Darksteel Colossus are pretty fun creatures and go really well with Pariah and Pariah's Shield . Fumigate is also a pretty sweet sweeper to drop mid-late game too, if you are looking for more of those :D

Azeworai Thank you for your incredibly detailed breakdown! You might be honored to know that I have seen your deck, it helped me a lot in making this one! Because of your deck I was able to get a clear direction and you have also introduced me to my favorite card Vizier of the Menagerie. It is adorable.

Seeing as I have both of you confused of my inclusion of Darksteel Sentinel I will remove it. I saw it on a forum for "best mutate targets" while I was looking for such. No problems, I think I have decided to go with Future Sight as its replacement. The striking accolade of "best card in my deck" really stood out. I also really, really like Momir Vig, Simic Visionary but wow, that is really good - maybe too good.

Thanks for all your help, your deck list is certainly the first I will go to if some of my cards here don't work out according to plan. Have a great day!

I like it! +1 from me. However, is there a reason for Darksteel Sentinel? It seems like there are better 6 drops out there.

All very good points, I'll remove Flash Hulk and add in Darksteel Sentinel and Sphinx of the Final Word just for more keyword goodness.

Stuffy Doll might be good, either as an upgrade to Darksteel Myr or a cheaper alternative to Darksteel Sentinel .

Neotrup on Does a creature taking damage …

No. A 5/5 that takes 3 damage becomes a 5/5 with 3 marked damage. Also, Legion's Judgment care's about the creatures power, not toughness. A 5/5 that get's hit with Lightning Bolt followed by Inside Out becomes a 5/5 with 3 marked damage.

An reason damage and loss of toughness is important is because if there is a Darksteel Sentinel and it get's hit with Lightning Bolt the result is a Darksteel Sentinel with 3 marked damage. If a 3Darksteel Sentinel is instead hit with the second half of Agony Warp it instead becomes a very dead 3/0 as indestructible can't save it from having no toughness.

On how cards like Inside Out work, if a 5/5 is hit with Spatial Contortion and then Inside Out, it becomes a 2/8. If instead it gets hit with Inside Out and then Spatial Contortion it still becomes a 2/8. This is because the effects are applied in layer order rather than timestamp order.

Ultimately the basic effect (reduction of power and toughness) is about the same, but as mentioned, one is temporary, and the other is permanent and could be moved around with the right spells or abilities.

Either one would get around a Darksteel Sentinel's indestructibility.
