Looking to make exquisite blood + sanguine bond in a deck for modern

Modern Deck Help forum

Posted on March 9, 2016, 5:13 p.m. by Geordie

I am looking to make them into a deck, most of my deck ideas so far revolve around B/G and using some elf ramp or mono black control with the combo built in. 2 problems I face:

A. To get the combo set up I need to cast two 5 mana enchantments, one of which is BB.B. After it is set up I need to trigger it, usually swinging will do the trick but can't rely on opponents removal and/or filling the field.

It would only be for FNM at it's most competitive, unless I can somehow break it, What a deck to follow Eldrazi that would be lol.

Vizkopa Guildmage is another neat way to get your combo going.

Lost Auramancers can tutor for your enchantment combo pieces if you can get all of the time counters to go away (Vampire Hexmage?)

They seem like solid options, I had thought of white, but wasn't 100% but I think it will make best option even on splash with Vizkopa Guildmage.

Chatting to my mate about it on mtgo he has suggested putting it in a deck filled with life linkers as then even if I only get up one piece I'm still gaining from it

The five mana costs on both makes them next to impossible to quickly cheat into play. You're safest option is going to be to dig in for the long game and maybe play an MBC shell that is modified to accelerate the combo.

@TMBRLZ I know what u mean, I was hoping someone could think of something I had overlooked, I think I may have to use the MCB and use what spaces for creatures I have for stuff like Vizkopa Guildmage & Vault Skirge which can help speed up or trigger pretty easy.

On the plus side, I have a solid MBC I use in legacy... Yes I am that guy... And most of the cards are modern legal anyways.

Don't you need a way to stop the combo? If it goes on actually infinitely then the game ends in a tie?

You could take the modern Tooth and Nail list and modify it to be instead of . I guess you could go heavy on the shocks and make it Abzan if you wanted to include white for the enchantment tutors.

@InfiniteParadoX as far as I am aware you don't, as it is a trigger ability when they lose life, so therefore them hitting zero should end the game.

@Gidgetimer it is a good idea, something like tooth and nail for enchantments is what I was looking for initially.

You could self mill and with a splash of white play Replenish or Open the Vaults.

I think you best bet is to find a way to get them both underneath Windbrisk Heights and then play a white token strategy with Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant, and or Auriok Champion.

You're never going to hardest these in modern and be able to activate it.

You can also try running Tainted Remedy. Condemn would be a great trigger and useful for spot removal. attached to Isochron Scepter it would be great.

You could use Genesis Wave and ramp, hoping to hit them both and a Nissa Revane. As long as you have one elf out (which you should considering your just cast a huge GWave,) you activate her +1 and win.

Alternatively, mono-black with Crypt Ghast and five lands?

Wow loads of help there guys thank you so much, more than i expected to get.

@MindAblaze that seems awesome idea, how i never thought of Genesis Wave i do not know as i use that already in legacy elves.

@GearNoir, i think your idea would potentially work better with something like Fact or Fiction, running it as an esper deck.

all the other suggestions are very solid if i ran the relevant colours. I am going to sit today and make a couple of rough decklists for B/W and B/G and will tag you guys in it for thoughts if nobody has any objections?

Although...Nissa with enough elves and a Sanguine Bond is usually enough. But, no better kill than overkill.
