Stromkirk Captain might be a nice addition to this deck, I used to run Feast of Blood in my vampire deck also, not instant speed but I liked the lifegain, and the 2 vampire clause didn't really matter lol +1

Thanks man! Yeah, he's on the list!

Feast of Blood was very helpful I found. Lots of ppl called it "bad" when I successfully used it against them... Funny how that works...

Might be some time before I Modernize this, but thanks again!

that's my favorite when people tell you how bad a card is when you use it well lol also when you do modernize it I'd consider Terminate also

+1 cool deck.

I think you could take out sign in blood, bloodthrone vampire, and viscera seer. also swap burst lightning Lightning Bolt . I recommend adding some more lands, Bloodline Keeper  Flip and Captivating Vampire . otherwise nice deck.

Thanks man!

Maybe for modernizing it. I'll def keep the Lightning Bolt . This is just a list of my old Standard list that did pretty well back in the days of old. But thanks for the suggestions! I actually found 20 land was the perfect amount in this list with the Sign in Blood . Everyone was running Dark Tutelage at the time, but I found the ability to ping someone as well as drawing two cards at a time really helped out.

Thanks again!

Lots of 1 drops, I would recommend maybe removing 2 Pulse Tracker and adding 2 Captivating Vampire , they'll buff your minis, plus if he drops something like Phyrexian Obliterator on turn 4 or 5...you just take it.

Thanks man. I'm going to keep this as is because it's my old Standard list. But I will keep that in mind for modernizing it one day. The one drops actually were amazing. I'd have added more. Kalastria Highborn and sac outlets won me lots of matches.

I wanted to ask what your reason was for picking Go for the Throat over Feast of Blood . But I see now that the last one isn't at instant speed

Yeah, and the two vampire thing actually came up a few times in the old standard. I'd sac a lot of my own critters too. But one in the side was always a nice life gain.

You actually run out of vampires with such a low mana curve and four Bloodghast ? I use a Gravecrawler for my graveyard return tricks and he always seems te be coming back unless exiled. Check out if you'd like: Zombie vs zombie

In the old standard my meta had lots of board wipes. Nice list!

Bloodghast one of the speed bumps for my modern mill deck. The CMC in this is ridiculous. Quick to come out quick to get sacked. Other than the side i see a missing component of flavor. LIFELINK!!!! I should probably playtest this a bit and see how it is supposed to be played before giving any advice (not that my advice would help any) on it.

Any advice is always appreciated, thanks!

In standard it never lost a complete matchup believe it or not. That said, I only played people at my local shop. Trick with this one is to shoot out your critters and sac them if need be to Highborn. It's nice to keep a few in hand for board wipes and such, but if you have mana open and a sac outlet, board wipes can be dangerous with Highborn. Sac outlets and cards like Mark of Mutiny , Fling , Abyssal Persecutor , and Bloodthrone Vampire were fun plays as well. People who played vampires used Dark Tutelage a lot. It is a great card, but I found one less land and 3 Sign in Blood really kept my hand in good shape--also pinging the final two is always nice.

This played well against some other Standard lists from other sets, but has it's bad matchups too. It struggles against Deft Punk, but we're getting into the Modern territory there.

Anyways, thanks for the comment! This was my first real deck so it'll always have a special place in my MTG heart. Sorry about the rant!

+1 Pretty sick.

I love a good vampire deck.

In fact, the Bloodline Keeper  Flip in your Maybeboard just gave me a nice idea for a new deck, especially with the Captivating Vampire . Thanks!

Thanks! And thank all those folks in the comments! I might modernize this one day, but love playing this old standard list.

Thanks again! I appreciate it!

For all creature-based decks, especially those that keep mana open for Burn/etc., I have to suggest AEther Vial . With a strong creature presence on the 2-drop slot, Vial would help you keep board presence while having mana open for Burn. I really think it would help the deck break into the competitive level.

Thanks sir, to the maybe board! Might try it with some Shrappy Blasty 'cause.

I've tried it before, but just a few games for fun with a friend. I'll give it a shot!

Thanks again!

+1, definitely!

Have you considered Goblin Guide ? 1 mana for a 2/2 with haste is always good. The other ability isn't as bad as one might think, since even if it's not a land, you know what will be ion their hand next turn. Turn 1 goblin guide swing, they reveal a Cranial Plating , you know to try to play in a way that counters Affinity.

Love it Emrakul-the-Format-Broken, but I'm going to stick with vamps purely for flavour. I do agree that it'd be awesome to play though! Might make a very aggressive one drop deck with those guys in mind one day...

I might modernize it, so I throw a few ideas in the maybeboard, but I really enjoy playing this as is against other Standard lists (of new and old) and even some Modern ones.

Thanks for checking it out!
