Maybeboard

OLD LIST ALERT! WILL BE UPDATED!

Race to play efficient creatures and spells with an efficient game plan ( Vexing Devil , Proclamation of Rebirth , and Ranger of Eos ). Deft Duelist along with Knight of the Holy Nimbus are strong cards that cost your opponent lots of resources to remove, thus drawing out removal and allowing a Devil or two to stick later game. They're good in their own right as well.

Any feedback is always more than welcome!

(Maybeboard has been shortened. It consists of cards/ideas I have tested, and others I might experiment with in this and other lists at some point.)

Thanks for over 50 Upvotes!!

TECH-DECK (Remember those?)

Tempo deck I made with some old faves. Wanted to make an original competitive rogue deck that's above all, fun to play. First made this when I hadn't seen many U/W/R variants around. These colours seem somewhat popular now, tried to make it my own nevertheless. First deck posted online! Yay!

--Critter Strategy

Trick is to try and be more efficient than your opponent(s). Make aggressive plays with creatures and bring back your Vexing Devil s with Proclamation of Rebirth . Have fun tutoring for Devils with Ranger of Eos to fuel the later game.

Don't worry about board wipes using Proc and Eos to refuel. Creatures like Knight of the Holy Nimbus are great for surviving board wipes and sucking removal out of your opponent.

The Human Tribal usually gets Champion of the Parish to 2 or 3 counters. If you Proc him, he will see all other humans coming into play and enter with counters (although, usually the Devils are the target here).

--ETB vs. Resilience

While these creatures don't all have Enter the Battlefield effects, they're resilience really helps them shine. In a way, it's an effect on it's own as it often takes lots of resources to deal with cards like Deft Duelist and Knight of the Holy Nimbus . This helps you keep more utility cards in hand than your opponent as they've used a wipe perhaps for Deft Duelist , or 4 mana to get rid of a Knight of the Holy Nimbus --throw in a Remand and you're having a really good day.

--Remand

I usually keep Remand on hand for my opponent's spells after the 3rd/4th land drop--of course, if you know what you're playing against, use it for whatever you see fit. Find that this way it allows me to keep putting threats down (or removing my opponent's) without relieving pressure (because of open mana).

--Mana and Deft Duelist

Manabase has been consistent (I'm happy with 20, but sometimes lower the number with SB). Steam Vents as a 1 of is great when your opponent is packing cards like Sowing Salt / Tectonic Edge . Rugged Prairie helps me save a bit of life compared to playing another shockland. There's upsides (double red) and downsides (colourless when I need white or red with only 2 mana on board) to this, but because I run 2 Gitaxian Probe s, I can't be too self destructive. Besides, usually I'm happy to see it!

Not everyone likes Deft Duelist , but I'm ecstatic every time I draw her. First Strike and Shroud are nice and heck, she is the flavor of the deck. I find her and Knight of the Holy Nimbus are quite unexpected. Really think they're underestimated in Modern.

--SB Options

Been loving Ghostly Prison and find it has many applications (Affinity, Jund, Splinter, Zoo 'X', etc.). If you have no better targets for Pithing Needle , why not target Knight of the Holy Nimbus for giggles?

--Vexing

I think Vexing Devil is a great card. This deck tries to exploit it by tutoring and reanimating it. While it can be bolted, you're paying one mana for this critter. Some argue that your one drops should stick for a few turns and do more damage than the 4 your opponent often chooses to take. I find that's a bit optimistic. Anyways, by including other threats--which can also be tutored/reanimated--this deck attempts to spread your opponent's removal among various potential threats such as Knight of the Holy Nimbus and Champion of the Parish in hopes that some might actually stick later on--and so far, they (Devils) often do.

Anyway, pretty straight forward. it's fun to play and has held it's own against quite a few Modern lists at the local shop and online.

Thanks for popping by! Any critique is very welcome!

...Boros Points to anyone playing this whilst listening to Deftones...

{{{LIST UPDATE 18/11/13 - Might swap out Reforge the Soul for a utility and/or fun card...Maybe Immortal Servitude or more burn/removal/counters. Have experimented with Aether Vial and find it slows things down, but might try swapping in just 1 or 2 to see how it does in the place of a land... Deft Duelist has done a good job at killing Geist of Saint Traft . So far so good, will keep testing!}}}

LIST UPDATE 13/12/28 - Still been having good results. Tweaked the deck a bit (SB). It will likely stay as is aside from possibly a tweak in numbers here and there... Anyways, it's been good! Thanks for the kind words!

LIST UPDATE 14/01/06 - Swapped out 2 Boros Charm and 2 Spell Snare for Dispel and Spell Pierce . Pierce can stop a board wipe, my main reason for running the charm anyways--though it does have it's other points. These additions really help against UWR and Spell Snare . Just tweaking the list here and there.

LIST UPDATE 26/04/15 - Tweaked the lands so I could have a few more basics. Helps a bit against Blood Moon and Path to Exile . Still tweaking once in a while.

Thanks again as always!
