Getting There —Sept. 12, 2016

I got a Kommand today. (Kolaghan's Command) Planning to get a second Remand on friday and maybe get a 2nd Kommand. After that the deck is as finished as it can get without spending hundreds on Snapcaster Magefoil and Scalding Tarn (Outside of Sideboard)

If i can make a suggestion in place of the crumble to dust, try running Stone Rain because if youre on the play that turn 3 is super relevant, you bump them down to two land and effectively stall a turn, but once all the urza lands are out, if you durdled on the removal of one of the lands it could cost you the game, gotta keep in mind the relevant turns here when it comes to tron. And i think you underestimated your faeries opponent, assuming they played a Bitterblossom thats a creature each turn they get and the enchantment is hard to get rid of, yes they lose life in exchange but flying is relevant, that means your delver isnt going to get in there every turn, it also means they have chumps to bide time between casting their other stuff, so they build an infinitely unmanageable boardpresence for a delver deck, as do a lot of token decks you have to watch out for, things like Lingering Souls can really ruin your day, i suggest siding in Electrickery for matches like that. 2 mana to devastate their boardpresence? Count me in!

All in all my suggestion on the budget you have is find room for:

3 Stone Rain

2 Electrickery

And keep in the crumble to dust since youre hitting lands pretty frequent if youre running 21 lands

Oh and never forget to fetch basics as a precautionary measure against other grixis decks or any control deck running red because getting too greedy on the shocks can incur the wrath of Blood Moon

Turn 3 Stone Rain into Turn 4 Crumble to Dust could really destroy tron and still be fast enough to not have them wring you out anyways assuming you're on the play

Pm me actually i play grixis delver too and theres a slew of janky budget sideboard hate i can tell you about based on the matchup

Semi-known secret: against Tron, you don't particularly want to be blowing up lands. You're better off holding setting a delver in play early, then holding counterspells as your Delver beats face. That way you can keep tempo - putting mana into land destruction means you're paying mana to trade for a card your opponent has not paid any mana on, so it's a tempo loss. Watching them draw natural Tron, then going Mana Leak Wurmcoil Engine into Remand Karn Liberated is much better since you're buying time and getting more attacks as well as not being vulnerable to Pyroclasm.

Well if they run the variant where they put out a Kuldotha Forgemaster into Blightsteel Colossus your best bet is just Vapor Snags i generally play 3 maindeck, part of the reason they could be doing iffy is that this is a midrange variant with not enough Thoughtseize to really seal their boardstate and if youre super liberal with your life total its always fun to have a few Death's Shadow as a kind of suicide bomb attacker if you take a lot from burn, at the moment im just listing cards that ive had luck with

Drakengard_Sol Thanks for the tips! Actually, I don't even think the dude playing Faeries was even running Bitterblossom. He was running this weird Mono U variant. As for Stone Rain, I don't think I necessarily agree with that. I sided in my Crumble to Dust second game and managed to wipe out Urza's Tower and Urza's Mine. It was the Grove of the Burnwillows that let him get there. In all honesty I should've just moved on to wiping out grove and then he would've only had basics and an incomplete tron. He was running the Karn Liberated/Ugin, the Spirit Dragon variant.

ToolmasterOfBrainerd I see your point in holding Delver against Tron, but doesn't blowing up lands work just as fine? I definitely see where you're coming from though. I need to go pick up some Remands. Regardless, Tron is scary.

Another pickup maybe for those running walkers.. the downside being the sorcery speed but itll wipe a planeswalker which is relevant sometimes Dreadbore

Drakengard_Sol Yeah, I plan to pick up a Dreadbore or two one of these days.

I dunno about dreadbore in delver. A deck like Jund is very sorcery-speed anyway, so throwing a few in is easy enough, but delver is a deck that wants to do nothing on its turn but play lands, cantrips, and 1 mana creatures. Everything else, and especially interaction, is done at instant speed so you can maintain the choice between counterspells and removal depending on what they play. Even if you dreadbore a Nahiri, you are opening your self up to Anger of the Gods on the back swing which could have been countered.

Additionally, dreadbore still isn't as good vs Nahiri as you'd hope, since it can't kill Celestial Colonnade, which is their backup plan.

ToolmasterOfBrainerd Valid. I plan to get a couple of Kolaghan's Commands sometime soon. Does removing a land or two seem viable?
