Zombie Reanimation

Aim

The zombie apocalypse on a budget.

I've also tried to stay away from the classic 2/2 zombie token style deck as they are quite so common.

In the first few turns I normally like to use Tracker's Instincts or Mulch to ensure I get the right creatures in my hand and can consistently play lands for at least 5 turns. Getting a Havengul Lich by turn 5 and a Rooftop Storm by turn 6 is the ideal scenario. Any other zombies and Deadly Allure can be put in the graveyard for later if I have to discard due to picking up extra lands with Mulch.

Diregraf Captain is a useful turn 3 drop as it's deathtouch ability puts opponents off attacking a buys me more time to get to turn 7. If I've not drawn a Rooftop Storm and one is in the graveyard then Nyx Weaver is the next most important creature to cast, exiling it shortly after to go and fetch Rooftop Storm from the graveyard. The fact that it puts two cards per turn into the graveyard is also quite useful, as any zombie's can be cast with Lich or the sorceries I have with flashback. This effectively increases my hand size at the cost of what I can play being slightly more obvious to an opponent.

Turn 6 is crucial to this deck, as when I can get a Rooftop Storm into play, preferably with Havengul Lich on turn 5, I can flood the board with zombies on turn 7 and go for the win on turn 8 or shortly after.

Once the board is flooded, Cemetery Reaper and Diregraf Captain pump all my creatures to sufficiently large proportion to swing for the win.

Dread Slaver normally ends up as a 6/8 conscripting any smaller opposition creatures which get used for chump blockers, which then get pumped when I gain control of them and make them into zombies.

The only non-expendable zombie on the field at that point is Havengul Lich as this allows me to return any of my creatures that die either straight after they've died with any spare mana or the turn after.

Key Combos

Havengul Lich + Rooftop Storm
Return target zombie(s) to the battlefield for 1 mana each.

Deadly Allure + Dread Slaver
If your creature ain't big enough to kill Dread Slaver then I'm having it.

Nyx Weaver + Rooftop Storm
If a Rooftop Storm finds itself in the graveyard after Mulching or Tracking then Nyx Weaver provides a way to get it back. Tracker's Instincts increases the probability of getting it on the battlefield along with Havengul Lich if I need to retrieve it from the graveyard.

Main Board

Cemetery Reaper
A useful pump for my other zombies and a source of expendable tokens if required.

Diregraf Captain
Another +1 pump to all other zombies and additional damage when they die.

Dread Slaver
With a couple of Diregraf or Cemetry Reaper on the board a tough and formidable zombie, conscripting opponents creatures to my army of the dead.

Havengul Lich
The key to the zombie army, returning as much as I can afford to recast which will be quite a lot with a Rooftop Storm.

Nyx Weaver
A useful way of retrieving Rooftop Storm or Havengul Lich from the graveyard if needs be.

Unbreathing Horde
A potentially hard to remove big hitter than can be cast or retrieved at the right time for best effect.

Gnaw to the Bone
A useful source of life to keep the game going, especially useful as it can be paid for with a flashback cost meaning if it gets milled unintentionally can still be used to save my ass.

Mulch
Ensures consistent playing of land cards each turn with the added bonus of dumping zombies into the graveyard as a by-product.

Tracker's Instincts
Allows me to draw into the right zombie at the right time, or cast again from the graveyard to do the same. Being able to be cast from the graveyard means if it ends up there by accident via Mulch I can do cast it at least once.

Rooftop Storm
Effectively makes Lord of the Undead's ability, tap 1B return target zombie to the battlefield.

Sideboard

Deadly Allure
If you're not going to block Dread Slaver then I'll give it deathtouch and force you to, or I'll make you bounce something of Unbreathing Horde.

Disclaimer

All my deck centre around trying to do one or two things well based around a certain theme, they are not intended to be able to defend and cope with everything and anything that comes their way. (Good Card Suggestions vs Deck Dilution)

I am a 'kitchen table' player with a limited budget. As with all my decks advice and suggestions (as well as +1's) are always very welcome but keep in mind anything above the $5 per card mark I'm unlikely to consider.

The more reasoning you can give with any suggestion you make, the more likely I am to consider running it in the deck. This is because I can't always spot the combo or idea you are going for. Letting me know what your thinking gives me a better insight into how you think this deck might be made better by the suggestion.
