This deck was built to spite WotC for the rules change involving split cards, as I had an awesome deck that would chain through Goblin Dark-Dwellers and Breaking / Entering and end on a baddie like Griselbrand
Ah okay, so for this deck, the idea is simple: Loot through as much of your deck as you can, discarding all copies of
Twinflame
, Heat Shimmer, and any populate spells you get. Use the draw from Faithless Looting, Cathartic Reunion, and Tormenting Voice to dredge using
Stinkweed Imp
or Golgari ThugYou're ready to go off when you are able to cast a Goblin Dark-Dwellers or a
Footsteps of the Goryo
.Using its Etb trigger, first exile a copy of either Twinflame or Heat Shimmer.That new token enters the battlefield with haste, use its etb trigger to exile all other copies of Twinflame, Heat Shimmer, Rootborn Defenses, and Wake the Reflections.The populate spells are important as they are populating copies of your TOKEN version of Goblin Dark-Dwellers (with haste) and the copies made by populate will not exile at end of turn like those made with Twinflame/Heat Shimmer (but also, you need at least one of these two in the grave to begin the combo).The soonest you are able to go off is turn three, hitting a Goblin Dark-Dwellers in the grave with
Footsteps of the Goryo
.
The sideboard includes
Resolute Blademaster
so you can end a Goblin Dark-Dwellers chain with a Footsteps to resurrect a single Blademaster, giving all your Hastened, Menacing tokens double-strike as well.Sundering Growth is a great additional populate spell vs decks like Affinity, where you know you'll have targets to hit with it.
Using some maybeboard ideas, you can end your combo exiling a footsteps from your grave with the last Dark Dwellers to resurrect a Torrential Gearhulk, and have it hit any number of Fated Infatuation, Cackling Counterpart, and populate spells, as well (though this idea is less developed and would likely be dropped in favor of more consistency. Just for fun.
