An intriguing idea, but we have exile in Banishing Light and Last Breath , and we don't run enough creatures to profit from convoke.

You should take out a couple of Dig Through Time for lands. You need to hit you lands when you play control every turn. Otherwise, a nice deck +1

September 13, 2014 3:58 p.m.

Yeah, good idea. I don't want to go up to 25 though, because it's not good to get flooded late-game.

September 13, 2014 5:12 p.m.

Edit: In retrospect 25 is prolly too much and 23 is too few.

September 13, 2014 5:19 p.m.

Ah, I take it back, 25 is fine.

How about 1 or 2 Keranos, God of Storms ? They would do you good, allowing dig near the late game preventing flooding out and providing fuel to turn prognostic hexproof. Although you will never get it to become a creature it also functions as a lightning strike at times

I don't have any Keranos atm. I agree it would work great and I'll add it as soon as I can find one.

can i ask, why are you using Swiftwater Cliffs etc, over the scry lands? It seems to me that the scry would help dig through your deck for the appropriate spells needed for control, and they both enter tapped anyway, the only down side i suppose would be the cost of them, although they're not anywhere near the price's of shock lands ><

I forgot about the scrylands x/X

I think the refuges will be handy, but the scrylands are definitely worth also putting in.

Against

Nyx-fleece is in the mainboard because it's just so good in so many matchups. Pretty much any deck that's not another control deck will be given trouble by that little sheep.

That said, I do need more progs.

-1 Dig Through Time

+1 Prognostic Sphinx

Did you say control? Yes you did! Take Keranos, God of Storms definitely in, very good card in control like this. It gives card advantage or lightning strike on your every upkeep against the enemy! I might take 1-2 Jace's Ingenuity cards away and add those Keranos cards.

Also a control needs... PLANESWALKERS! I love them in my control. You can use End Hostilities and that wont affect planeswalkers. I'd recommend 1-2 Chandra, Pyromaster . The 0 ability is awesome, it allows u to play the card, even land if u haven't played land on this turn! You can delay the game and save... lets say Dissolve , when opponent uses something that he goes tappedout, this tip is specially against other controls, cast Chandra on next turn and they might not have mana to answer on that. Now you can use 0 ability and "draw a card" and you force your opponent to react on Chandra, Pyromaster on next turn. If he/she wont... you got yourself a pretty good planeswalker on the field.

Also consider the new Jace, the Living Guildpact . I know what people say about it that it isn't as strong as Jace, Architect of Thought but the meta goes a bit slower and this Jace might just fit into it. You can still put it into play, bounce a threat back into opponent hand and then you got another planeswalker which gives a decent "scry" effect and the opponent definitely must answer on this planeswalker. It's still too "advantageous" to be left on the table.

And I'm looking at your win-cons... they are 2x Prognostic Sphinx and.... and? I cant find. You are control, I get that but with End Hostilities and some other spells doesn't target Sphinx and it gets destroyed.. or counters, how about those? You need more win-cons. I would suggest Elspeth, Sun's Champion .. Very good planeswalker who can beat the game alone. And on win-cons even Keranos is helpful. To get more room into your deck, I would say that you could take Last Breath and Nyx-Fleece Ram spells out. Last Breath s totally and Rams could go into sideboard. I would take Narset, Enlightened Master cards out of sideboard totally... I know it hurts because she is Jeskai leader. But if we are honest here, she is quite expensive and meant against draw/burn/prowess decks. She has first strike and if I get this correctly, she strikes first, you draw the spells, you can cast them before others hit and boom prowess is boosted! It won't wont help on this kind of control deck. It's a combo card.

You have very good root on jeskai control. I really hope you can make it work and hopefully my comment raised some thoughts or even ideas to improve your deck.

Sorry, after reading the Narset, Enlightened Master , you will get the cards instantly already after you have declared her as attacker but still the point is same.

Thank you so much HamppuHannu! I'm rather new to deckbuilding, and well-thought-out comments like yours really mean a lot. I'll definitely add in Keranos and Elspeth. I'm a little iffy about Jace and Chandra- I don't want to completely bust my budget.

I totally understand that side of magic as I'm student of myself. Chandra, Pyromaster might not be vital. It's good, even very good but not vital since you rarely win the game with it. Elspeth, Sun's Champion is better choice if you need to choose. :)

I would also throw some more counters because counters are quite the basic root of control. Mindswipe goes on your colors and you even get some damage against the opponent. The best thing about counters is that you can stop the best cards, worst thing is that you need to know the meta and the cards in it. Like playing against RUG, you need to watch out for Prophet of Kruphix and be ready to burn or counter it before it resolves and it goes on your turn. You also need to be patience since they try to bluff and you never know is it a bluff or not.

September 16, 2014 7:05 p.m.

Mindswipe is really nice! I'll add it.

I'm not too sure Weave Fate is a card you want to be using, 4 mana for 2 cards is not very good, Jace's Ingenuity just seems better

November 25, 2014 8:32 a.m.

It's true that Jace's Ingenuity is likely better in terms of power level, but I want to be able to drop a sarkhan or an End Hostilities turn 5- Ingenuity conflicts with that.

November 25, 2014 4:02 p.m.

Love it, EXCEPT! Steam Augury...a better card for that slot is Stoke the Flames OR Fated Conflagration. Seeing as to how you have no creatures mainboard, I would recommend Fated Conflagration. It just can get rid of so many threats in the meta right now. Elspeth, Sun's Champion/Stormbreath Dragon/Wingmate Roc/Siege Rhino..... And it has the SCRY!!!! So you can still essentially set up your top deck.

November 26, 2014 8:15 a.m.

That's true, but Steam Augury is needed to fuel my graveyard for Dig Through Time. It lands a spot in the sideboard for sure, though- I'll board out the Augury against midrange decks where I need answers more than draw power.

November 26, 2014 4:08 p.m.

Here's a suggestion to keep in mind though, you don't necessarily need Steam Augury to help you dig...if you are playing low burn and other control spells, granted you play them as you should and need to, they will fill your yard enough. And never be afraid to hold 2 burn in your hand with a dig and tap 5 land and delve 3 at their end step to dig. That is never bad unless you need need need to burn them out at that time. So the abundance of cards need in your yard, becomes minimal if you are playing on their turn more so than yours.

December 1, 2014 7:20 p.m.

And don't forget that Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker's -6 can also fuel your delve if needed.

December 1, 2014 7:24 p.m.

You make good points. I'll playtest with mainboarded Conflagration.
