Controlling with Nukes

INTRO

Ok so I am just getting into magic, and this is my first deck here - so I apologise in advance.

DESC.

This is a deck me and a friend built for a casual comp held locally, and we wanted something that would stand a fight so this is what we came up with.

I have not lost a comp yet with this deck. This deck is an extremely controlling deck, with the ability to pump up the army without allowing the opponent to get theirs out.

There are a lot of uneven numbers in this deck, but that is because these are the cards we had.

PLAY STYLE

This deck has a few win conditions in it, making it a little easier to use.

first

Azor's Elocutors have gotten me more than a few wins. To do this, I have ensured my hand had at least 4 or 5 counters, such as Dissolve or Render Silent to stop any direct damage being dealt to myself of my Elocutors. I then used Elspeth, Sun's Champion to pump out the token soldiers to defend me from the ground.

second

Use Elspeth, Sun's Champion outright. Keep pumping her up, blocking where you need to or countering. Don't be afraid to Supreme Verdict once in a while to knock everything off the field (doesn't affect Elspeth), because once you hit that -7 it's game over for the opponent. Every single +1 from then on gives you 9 damage per attack (given they don't have flying or reach of course). You can then Azorius Charm to give those guys lifelink and gain back whatever you lost!

third

The AEtherling is a deadly creature. Pump up the mana, and watch you're opponent get hit with a 8/1 unblockable. Just remember to counter. Once you lose him, he's gone.

THOUGHTS

This deck would make for a crazy STD or MDN deck if you could cut down the lands into some other cards (more gates, some artifact lands and etc); so I stuck them on the maybe board if you are interested.

END STEP

I hope you like it, let me know what you all think. I know it can be improved; and I also know that once RTR goes out all the gates do and..well, pretty much the whole deck does. Will still be fun to play but.

The last big game

Played the last big match before rotation last weekend. One the first 2-0, won the 2nd 2-0, with the third game (semi's) going 1-2 due to a good green ramp/aggro deck.

Why it lost:

By the time I got land, I was already hit for 12 or something and once he got that win in, he didn't let up on the next match.

I really should have sideboarded in some more destroy creatures but it was not going to help by the point I realised it.

Overall

It was a fun deck watching them twitch and silently scream as I stop their whole deck, but now it is time to put her to rest.

GG Nuke Deck, you did good.
