My take on RDW.
I've always been a red mage at heart. My other attempts at red include The Biggest Red(currently playing) and Jurabrask (Tap Tap Revenge)(SHOULD RED GO?) (though red is kinda forced in here). But none of those are really competitive and I'm hoping that this one will be being a newbie in a competitive MTG world.
Please note that I would love to keep this deck standard legal when the Zendikar block and M11 rotates out, so there will be no Goblin Guide,
Staggershock
, Flame Slash, and the saddest part, no Lightning Bolt.
I think a little explanation of my card choice would help you to give better suggestions and opinions.
Creatures:
Grim Lavamancer: So yeah.. Moving on.
Goblin Fireslinger
: This might seem odd, but I think this combos well with the next card that I'm going to explain. It is basically
Spikeshot Elder
of the deck, but since there are no power booster cards such as
Teetering Peaks
, thus I opted for him. But if you think there are other cards that can replace him, please feel free to share your thoughts.
Stormblood Berserker
: This card is the beater for the deck. A T2 3/3 (with
Goblin Fireslinger
) with pseudo evasion? I think yes.
Chandra's Phoenix
: This card is showing it's worth in RDW recently. I think a hasty 2/2 flying with recursion ability for 1RR is quite OK. I don't know about this card yet, but it's worth giving a try. What do you guys think of it?
Burns:
Incinerate
: A strictly worse Lightning Bolt.
Shock: I can't think of any other burn spells that are post Zendikar. So yeah. Help me on this one, please.
Arc Trail
: A multi purpose burn spell of the deck. Deals with other aggro decks. Gives way to
Stormblood Berserker
. Kill a creature and ping/recur
Chandra's Phoenix
.
Volt Charge: 3 damage is 3 damage. But the proliferate tech is something that makes me run 4 of this. Koth of the Hammer,
Shrine of Burning Rage
and
Stormblood Berserker
are the targets.
Sideboard:
This is for me and most of us (I assume), is the hardest part in deck building. So my sideboard card is pretty much what other RDW decks are having. But still, any suggestions and opinions on this would be greatly appreciated.
Ok, enough of my rambling. So yeah, this is my take on RDW. I think eventhough not as explosive and fast as the Zendikar block RDW (with Goblin Guide,
Teetering Peaks
,
Staggershock
, etc), this deck will still do quite ok.
So, what do you guys think? I would be glad if you can give this deck some comments, suggestions and opinions to make it better.
Don't forget +1 if you like the idea (though it is not very original, I pick the ideas here and there).
