Hi it’s your boi majority blue player and I’ve been in quarantine and I saw PleasantKenobi play this deck in historic as I literally laughed my D**k off. So here’s a commander deck that’s essentially the same deck. Lastly, there are tons of lands to consider and there’s some you may not like but these are the ones I think are really worth a spot in the list.
It's me from the future and oml this deck is way better than the meme I thought it was it's actually kinda insane we can win as early as turn 3 with the deck with the mana severance Thassa's oracle combo but most games we usually win on turn 6-8 depending on how safe we are playing and what version of the combo we are going for. There's a few ways to win and ill break them down for you.
First off with all treasure hunt decks you mulligan until you hit a treasure hunt or in this case a treasure hunt or mana severance a there's a 13.7 percent chance of hitting the desired card each time you mulligan and because you get 8 hands in commander you end up having a 73 percent chance of hitting a treasure hunt and/ or mana severance after you take your full mulligan which makes this deck much more consistent than it seems.
After getting a hand there's really only about 8 different types of hands you can have in this deck and ill go over how to play with each subset of hands to optimize your chance at winning. I'll be going over the main 5 as the other 3 just are just hands with more utility than other's giving you more lines that I mention in the other 5 points. You can go for those lines but the plan should be to dodge removal and slam the combo as safely and as fast as possible.
If you mulligan into a just a Mana Severance you can just windmill slam the mana severance and runs the odds of drawing Thassa's oracle turn 3 I only suggest doing this if you are going first and no one played a turn 1 ramp piece. The other way of playing this hand is to play Kefnet on turn 3 and draw cards until turn 8 (playing lands that all tap for mana) and playing mana severance and then draw a card with left during your main phase for a 50/50 shot of winning the game on the spot. You can also wait till turn 10 to be able to win for sure as long as no one interacts with you but that's pretty slow but it's worth mentioning.
The next hand is starting with a treasure hunt in your hand. So what you want to do with this hand most of the time is play your commander turn 3 then cast treasure hunt before playing your land drop for turn on turn four and you want to hit either mana severance or mystic sanctuary/tolaria west(or started with tolaria west/mystic sanctuary in your opening hand). If you hit mana severance you can start going for the turn 8 win. If you hit Thassa's oracle then you're wanting to have hit mystic sanctuary/Tolaria west in the land pile you drew. You can play/tutor for a mystic sanctuary to rebuy treasure hunt to hit mana severance. From here you can slam Thassa's oracle and mana severance or wait to play them till the coast is clear. I don't suggest putting both cards in your hand before you're wanting to play them both and go for the win. There's also another more complicated line I've been forced to take a few times that I almost didn't mention but it happens enough if your table runs stax pieces or a flash deck so I'm mentioning it. With the prior line instead of slamming severance and oracle, you can wait a turn and rebuy the treasure hunt by bouncing mystic sanctuary to hand and getting a card on top of your library for when you do exile the rest of your lands except for 2 having a total of 3 cards in your deck this lets you bounce mystic sanctuary to hand and rebuy your nonlands from the graveyard to the top of your deck to try and give you time to win with Kefnet beats if you are wanting/having to play out the combo but you suspect it's going to fail. I don't see why you would do this i think waiting is a much better option but if someone revealed a stax piece or big threat you can't beat and you know you have to go for it right now then I guess this can be an option.
Now if you start with both Thassa's oracle and mana severance in hand you can just play Kefnet on turn 3 and play both Thassa's oracle and mana severance turn 4 and go for the win. You can also wait till people tap down etc.
If you start with Thassa's oracle and treasure hunt in hand you can play Kefnet on 3 and treasure hunt on 4 before you make a land drop and get mana severance then you can play severance on 5 and cast Thassa's oracle and go for the win or you can wait till turn 6 and do all of it at once.
If you start with a treasure hunt and mana severance in hand you can either play treasure hunt on 2 and cast Kefnet on 3 and cast severance and Thassa's oracle on 4. Or you can play severance on 2 and oracle on 3 but I suggest this only if you went first and no one played turn 1 ramp.
