Added Haze of Rage to the build (and description). Working on perfecting sideboard now.

Really interested in Monastery Mentor. Looks like it could have a huge impact on the format.

Alright guys...so I tested Kiln Fiend....and you were all right! It is UNREAL in this deck. It has replaced Mantis Rider in the build and has made the build even more explosive than it was before. Thanks for the great idea guys!

Convoke....first off, I love your name :) I too love Monastery Mentor. I'm just not sure this is the best shell for it. In this build, Geist of Saint Traft is just the preferred 3-drop. I feel like Mentor fits best in a more "controlling" or "midrange" build that can generate multiple tokens. I still do need to test it though (as I haven't, and without testing it I can't be sure it's not a great fit here). With spells like Emerge Unscathed if Mentor sticks around even for just 2 turns he piles up tokens pretty quickly. I'll definitely give it a try (as it is a great idea)...I'm just not sure if this is the best shell for it. Crazybop09 actually just built a U/W shell with Mentor in it that looks really strong. Hopefully if he reads this he can post a link.

UW Geist (With Monastery Mentor!) is the list if your interested Convoke and CurdBrosBrewingCo what does Deflecting Palm do for you, im curious, in what match up's do you bring it in and why?

January 20, 2015 2 a.m.

Hey Crazybop09....I tend to bring it in against Ad Nauseum (as Lightning Storm is the sole source of damage), Boggles (as they build up one huge creature and attack and often have lifelink somewhat early, anything trying to tutor in Emrakul, Tron (as it's great against Wurmcoil Engine, Burn (as traditionally it just acts as an additional copy of Lightning Helix against them, Affinty (as they often attack with one big creature with either Cranial Plating and/or a bunch of counters on it), Bloom Titan (as they like to attack with one very large Primeval Titan....

There are just so many uses. Even a smaller thing like a 5/6 Tarmogoyf can be crippling to an opponent as they were NOT expecting to get hit by the damage...often times they haven't calculated it in and either than very turn or the next turn is lethal. I've enjoyed playing it. quite a bit simply because I LOVE cards/effects that the opponent isn't ready for (i.e. most players are comfortable with countering/removing and attacking/blocking; but have a very difficult time with effects that are outside of these effects). It's worked well for me; but I can understand those not wishing to play it (as it is reactive in nature). I hope this helps!

CurdBrosBrewingCo had another thought this morning for a good replacement to cruise... I know this option would likely tap up more of your mana, however its a more flexible spell that's proven successful and purposeful in the pro tour already - Sphinx's Revelation. I see it as kinda of combining the merits of both cruise and grand master, while also keeping congruent with the fact that the deck you're running is not aggro; which Soulfire Grand Master definitely does give a more aggro edge. Anyway, just a thought!

CurdBrosBrewingCo One card you might want to look at as a replacement to cruise is Manamorphose I'm trying it in Grixis Delver Prowess and any time it's gold fished to three that card has been involved in getting the work done. I like that it cantrips for free mana wise giving you additional prowess triggers plus letting you draw into more gas. Also a small side benifit is at times it has helped mana fix to boot.

Sphinx's Revelation will really make this more of a control deck, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Of course the biggest downside of using it is it's mana cost, especially when all the creatures in your deck cost 1-3 mana. Somewhat takes away from the tempo aspect of this deck, but still a solid card to run imo.

TheLoneDart, Convoke, runningwithbeers...thanks so much for your help! I will certainly try out both of these ideas. Manamorphose is a great idea for Cruise replacement...at minimum it cycles, fixes your mana, and draws a card...essentially for free! Great idea. I will certainly try it. I am also building a deck with Become Immense in it...and Manamorphose is a perfect fit there too! Great idea....

Rev is a really interesting idea...it's one of those that can be better in play than it even seems in theory...and it seems pretty good in theory :) Thanks for your guys continued help!

I'm happy to see that Kiln Fiend made the cut. one of my all-time favorite cards :D

January 20, 2015 12:33 p.m.

scrotality...yes indeed. I was a skeptic at first only because it had to be cast on turn 2 and couldn't attack until turn 3...but the power it gets from each pump is just too big to avoid (makes it a MUST kill 2-drop). Great card! Thanks for suggesting it!

I am tempted to run a Twisted Image or two main board to deal with early mana creatures, affinity creatures, and especially do deal with pesky Spellskites. I will be testing this to see if it helps. It also works well with Monastery Swiftspear and Kiln Fiend for one additional damage.
