Red is not one of my stronger colors. I am not a fan of burning my opponent with direct damage. However, it is imperative for deckbuilders to build decks that are able to deal the most damage while simultaneously mitigating the damage dealt to you- as quickly as possible. The longer a game goes on, the harder it is to achieve that goal. Defend Akros! is my attempt at a fast, hit em hard, mono Red Aggro.
Akroan Crusader
is a great 1 drop cast. Heroic means that the Crusader is never alone for long. Titan's Strength is a great card to trigger Crusader's Heroic ability. Scrying is extremely useful also. Dragon Mantle is a red pump that replaces itself in your hand. Madcap Skills in an early game is difficult to get around. With an empty board and an enchanted Crusader, you're looking at 5 damage. If you're lucky, in round 2.
For Mid-Game, your strategy breaks away from the Crusaders as you try to play bigger, better creatures.Archetype of Aggression+
Awaken the Ancient
What is difficult to deal with in turn 5? A giant, angry mountain. Even worse? A giant, angry mountain with Trample.
Fated Conflagration
, Magma Jet, and
Scouring Sands
, are there to help you deal with the creature threats or Planeswalkers. Scouring Sands makes short work of Weenies. Magma Jet is more direct and focused (Scry 2). Fated Conflagration is also really good for 4 cmc. Purphoros only smiles when something gets smoldered.
I recently made an addition to Defend Akros!
Flamespeaker Adept
is a great home defender. Opponent Attacks! Magma Jet+
Flamespeaker Adept
Defend Akros! Or, alternatively, you can use the Adept or Prophetic Flamespeaker to press your attacks.
If you made it to Late Game, you are now ready to use a most devestating card. Possibility Storm. This card is amazing for disrupting a late game. I call this card Red Chaos. You swing for game. That
Fog
your opponent has been clutching becomes Launch the Fleet. In a pinch, you cast Prowler's Helm. That will most likely become Colossus of Akros. What's more, if you've been using your Prophetic Flamespeaker cards you cast from exile do not apply to Possibility Storm! Epic, right?
Forgestoker Dragon
is a stand alone behemoth capable of turning the tide for you. Big blockers can deal with Crusader, but not if they can't block. Whims of the Fates is a make or break card used for a high duress situation. Its randomness can be your salvation or your damnation depending. If Bearer of the Heavens is in one of those sack piles... Lets look back at early game.
I look forward to any comments or suggestions from the tapped.net community.
