Maybe run more Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx , as well as some Genesis Hydra and Sylvan Caryatid take out Pheres-Band Tromper since that doesn't do much, but apart from those there isn't much else.

Looks good, just make sure to sideboard enchantment hate and think about adding in a couple Mistcutter Hydra for the control match ups!

Development of a sideboard is paramount to success at FNM. Perhaps putting Mistcutter Hydra to counteract Esper and UW Control or Savage Summoning if that's more up your friend's alley. Back to Nature can counteract the TONS of enchantments in this set. Aside from sideboarding, I can tell this is your standard green fattie beatdown deck, right? Green doesn't have much in the form of removal and since it relies on the creatures to do all the heavy lifting, consider running 3-4 Setessan Tactics mainboard to remove blockers or anything giving you problems and maybe Mortal's Resolve to counteract spot removal. Splashing red for Domri Rade is also an option, but that's up to you or your friend.

What I recommend for getting better at competitive play is to watch Wizard's live events on Youtube to see how the pros play. Emulate their methods and play styles to get a real feel of how to do well at events such as FNM. I know that before watching these events and really studying the pro's behaviors, I was slaughtered at FNM but now I can do decent and have a great time. I've never actually placed at the event, but I felt good about how I played and how my deck did (being a homebrewer is never easy). That's what magic is all about, isn't it? As long as you or your friend have fun playing the game and meeting new people, there's no reason to quit. Sure, competition is great and so is winning but having fun is the reason magic and FNM is still around! So even if he doesn't go 4-0 at FNM, as long as he plays the way he loves to play it'll be like a victory in itself.

Throw in a Terra Stomper . It's technically in standard even though you can only get it those sample deck. Plus the card is just bonkers and helps with devotion. Garruk's Packleader is also in standard and can help you with card draw.

Well first off mate 4-0 is damn hard, especially if your local store is filled with people who pretty much stick to all the good meta game decks.

Your friend said he would be ok with you splashing a colour? I would recomend a splash of black. You get removal and more creatures to access. Last thing, get some Planeswalkers. They are game changers!

First off i give you mad props for doing this! i had a friend that was just like yours and was like man im done, but its okay he came back.

Second, if you want to feel good about yourselves play green :D. it is my least favorite color but you cant deny the massive amount of beat down and woop ass this deck can pump out!

third, i agree with Uryah, Kalonian Twingrove kills kids. and my thoughts on this deck, get rid of Reverent Hunter and add some Prey Upon

What about the new green planeswalker

With a deck as creature heavy as this one, I would recommend 2-3 copies of Garruk's Packleader for some much needed draw power. Trust me, I am a fellow green mage who loves these kind of decks. Also, some spot removal/ delay and a few combat tricks would be great to add in. For spot removal turn to splashing black, and for a more control route turn to blue (my personal favorite to splash with green). If you decide to splash blue, then I suggest Prophet of Kruphix . Basic cards like Kalonian Tusker are great for early game threats, and they become even more nasty with auras such as Feral Invocation . Always leave your opponent guessing when it comes to combat tricks. All around this seems like a great beat down deck that just needs some fine tuning.

By the way, the new green planeswalker is Nissa, Worldwaker and is both extremely powerful and pricey. It would be a great addition, but it is very expensive.

Good luck to your friend!

Great ideas everybody but what to take out for them

Vastwood Hydra is certainly the weakest link in this deck, and nissa is much better in that slot. I personally think that there are much better things than Kalonian Twingrove , and that it isn't worth the spot in the deck. sideboard needs to be 15 cards. I also don't like Aspect of Hydra , i would rather have a creature/planeswalker/utility spell. maybe try to jam in some more 2-drops for the sake of curve? you only have 8, which isn't ideal. other than that, this deck seems awesome, and like one of the most fun decks i have seen in standard. i think your friend will be very happy

I'd say to take out the three Vastwood Hydra and 2 Aspect of Hydra

put in 2 Garruk, Caller of Beasts , 2 Hydra Broodmaster and add a 4th nykthos because you really need to be seeing at least 1 every game if you want your deck to have any kind of speed.

Genesis Hydra works best in a deck when it can be used to dig down into another threat, so the deck needs to run some big beaters that need to be dealt with immediately by your opponent.

First of all, your friend has some unrealistic expectations. There's no deck you can pick up and magically 4-0 an FNM. Part of doing well in casual "tournaments" like FNM is being able to analyze your opponent's deck and play to your strength. If your friend is insistent on free wins, then Boss Sligh will probably do the trick, but he's probably going to lose to experienced players who have either a good sideboard or can abuse his deficiencies of play.

There's plenty of pro's playing mono green splash black at the standard open, if that helps. Straight up mono green can also work. The problem with this kind of deck is that mono blue and mono black have a lot of tools to games more frustrating, so it might not 4-0 the way he wants.

There's really two ways your deck can go (aggro or midrange), and you seem to be riding the line between them. An aggro style would need Boon Satyrs, Experiment One, and Brushstrider. Midrange usually adds Eidolon of Blossoms, Polukranos, and a finisher like Hornet Queen, Hydra Broodmaster, Nylea, and Garruk. Both styles use Burning-Tree Emissary.

Also, remove Karametra's Acolyte and get some Voyaging Satyr in the mix. The acolyte isn't very good in practice and voyaging satyr can easily enable huge Nykthos turns.

After some playtesting I found that this deck is pretty powerfull already the biggest problem I see is deffinitly removal and boardwipes but otherwise it's running pretty good is there any decks that I should playtest against I have already played against selesnya enchantments and rackdos aggro. I have found that this deck is powerfull against aggro decks. But that is what I have found out and I hope it helps you suggest cards

Alright I just play tested against a mono black deck the one thing that hurt was getting hit by Heros downfall a couple of times but in the end the mono black could not produce big enough creatures and green did what it does best and trampled the opponent.

chord of calling would be amazing for this deck. so would that theros card hall of triumph for added power and toughness. also Primeval Titan over Terra Stomper any day. and lastly Garruk Wildspeaker and Nissa Worldwaker would be great in here!

Alright hall of triumph not a fan of because we'll it's three mana for a 1/1 counter but I do like chord of calling I would need to find something to take out for it tho and primeval Titan would be a good card if it was standerd but it's not same with garruk wild speaker but nissa world taker might have a place in here I would just need to find a place for it

A problem I come across while playtesting is lack of flying protection because the only thing I have to block them is arbor collosus so I'll look for some more flying blockers
