Who says blue can't be stompy too? Without the outright ramp that comes from playing green most of these fatties are coming out via some kind of cheating: either Deep-Sea Kraken with time counters or Quest for Ula's Temple which is just nasty when you realise that it triggers in everybody else's end step as well... In the meantime Thassa will be your helpful scrying enabler (nothing more frustrating than drawing lands with a Quest that needs one more counter to go off) while the Whelming Waves and Kraken Hatchlings try to hold off the enemy. The Kraken's Eye has turned out to be worth its weight in gold thanks to the relatively slow nature of the deck, as just a little bit of lifegain early on can allow you to survive against more aggressive strategies until you have assembled a credible defense line and start an unblockable offensive of your own. Kiora mainly provides a distraction - no-one can afford for those ultimates to happen - but has a secondary role in filtering out the deck if draws have not been on your side.

Alright, so Theros: Beyond Death is here and has actually brought with it quite a few good cards for this deck! First (and probably worst) up is Serpent of the Yawning Depths who'll make everything unblockable. Next is the new Thassa, who is a bit beefier than the original to make up for not being as good. I guess blinking Scourge of Fleets could be fun? The really exciting card though is Nadir Kraken, which perfectly fills a gap in the curve at three CMC; provides two blue devotion; gives us a mana sink when we flood out and gives a load of blockers while we stabilise. The fact that the tokens don't stick around after a Whelming Wave is strongly mitigated by the way the counters do. Finally there's Thryx, the Sudden Storm, who fits surprisingly well into the deck and gives some great flying defense. The cost reduction and protection are great bonuses too!
