What New Capenna card is most exciting to you?

For me, there's a lot in the new set that I'm enjoying tinkering about with at the moment. I feel like there are some splashy new possibilities that have some serious potential without anything in this particular set being obviously ridiculous to the point of massively warping the meta. Gun to my head, forced to pick a single card that really gets me hype, I think I have to go with Falco Spara, Pactweaver. I love Sensei's Top decks, and always have. Bant and Sultai are by far my two favorite shards, and Bant getting a lovely top combo with Devoted Druid + Sensei's Divining Top + Falco Spara, Pactweaver really tickles my fancies.

So what card is really doing it for you in terms of making a strong and enjoyable first impression?

oh, that's a neat combo. I likes it. I'm not too attached to anything in particular from the set. I do like the power level of it overall. Nothing I've seen looked purposely watered down but nothing jumped out as ridiculous either. Guess I feel about the same as you in that regard.

I'm half way considering a number of the new commanders. If I choose to build one I think it will most likely be Jaxis, the Troublemaker. She's neat and I get to make team rocket puns. Prepare for trouble and make it double! lol

It's a worse Elsha deck in speed and power but does basically the same thing

hejtmane I wouldn't call it "worse" before there's been any data collected on such a list to actually compare them to each other. That would be silly. While the core concept might be similar in using a Sensei's line of play, the surrounding components determine how the play patterns differ. Elsha has more difficulty tutoring it's combo pieces (not that it has a hard time, mind you), but has access to the reliable Lion's Breach combo as a back up plan. Elsha will have more difficulty in metas that include lots of artifact hate, while the alternative combo win line options for Falco offer some resilience to the same hate packages. And a whole host of other small differences. In a vacuum, I'd expect both decks to be strong performers but each will have different strengths and weaknesses that might make one or the other better suited to a particular meta. While both would fall under the same Top Combo archetype they each have unique aspects to bring to the table that help them succeed with somewhat different play patterns.

For a commander I'm excited about Henzie "Toolbox" Torre. I've had a Kresh the Bloodbraided deck focusing on recursion I've been tweaking for years and it's never worked because it just needs to do too many things. I think Henzie will fix that.

For the 99, I'm interested to see if I can make Tenuous Truce work in a politics deck. I really like the flavor, and I think it could be good in the right deck.

Nope not wrong because Falco lacks red and can not go into underworld breach combo lines as a backup. There are a entire slue of reasons why Elsha is stronger but we are talking top in of the game that is not that I have anything against Falco it is hat it is

I love that we got a legendary phoenix in Syrix, Carrier of the Flame. Probably far from cEDH playable, but a great casual commander to try and make work. With Hatred and Fling + combat you should be able to win the game in a single turn, and with Basilisk Collar, it's a lot of value even to just trigger a Bloodghast in your graveyard.

Jund did seem to get the shorter end of the stick with this release, didn't it?

Flame Bird Tribal does sound fun!

I'm planning a Phabine, Boss's Confidant deck. She'll be a nice extra combats commander.
