Removal for Maelstrom Wanderer EDH

Commander Deck Help forum

So I've been working on putting together a Maelstrom Wanderer EDH deck, and I'm looking for advice on removal to include. Lightning Bolt is good, but it would suck to get if I cascade into it. Same goes for counterspells. I'm considering adding Remand and Spelljack for their ability to get me more cascade triggers, but I don't know if it's worth it. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

Plasm Capture is a counterspell that can still be cascaded into without worrying.

Maelstrom's best plan is to cast proactive spells that are good all the time. The more reactive stuff you bring in, the more often your cascades are going to whiff. Try adding creatures that provide removal value like Bane of Progress and sweepers you can't cascade into like Blasphemous Act

Duplicant and Phyrexian Ingester are great

World Breaker, Acidic Slime, and Reclamation Sage are good for noncreature permanents

You already have a few of these in the deck so you're on the right track!

Cryptic Command can still be useful if cascaded into. Chaos Warp, Beast Within, Take Possession, any Unsummon / Vapor Snag / Spin into Myth variant (also Venser, Shaper Savant)

Spelljack is a solid option but Remand is only so-so because you probably don't have the mana to recast Wanderer that same turn. Crush of Tentacles is a nice combo with your cascade triggers since it resolves before Wanderer ETBs yet is the second spell cast that turn, netting you an Octopus.

Thanks, guys!

Omeros, I could be wrong, but I don't think you can surge spells you cascade into (because surge is an alternate cost, and so is the "without paying it's mana cost" that cascade gives you, you can't do both). Are you sure that works?

Ah no, you're right. And now I'm left wondering what cute Cascade interaction I was actually thinking of when I went to write that post. It's not with Crush.
