Building fungus go tall

Commander Deck Help forum

I am currently building Thelon of Havenwood for a fungus go tall but have a secondary focus of making saprolings. I have all the thallids and Sporoloth Ancient. Anything you would suggest for this deck?

Are you counting cards like Utopia Mycon, Spore Flower, and Fungal Bloom as thallids?

What's your budget, or intended bracket/power level?

Doubling Season is kind of a default no-brainer card, but this really is exactly the sort of deck that uses its full potential.

Some kind of fundamental stuff is getting damaged through to players, and the thallids cards don't natively have any interaction vision or trample. I assume you would add something like this anyway, but I'd like to mention Cover of Darkness. It's not really overlooked, going off the price fluctuations, but it's not used as much as I would expect.

I forgot to mention that I do run those three you mentioned. My budget is 250 for the whole deck and bracket 2. I forgot about Doubling Season so that will go in. Yeah I need to work on the evasion and interaction part so they can pack more of a punch.

You're in good removal colors. Abrupt Decay, Maelstrom Pulse, and Assassin's Trophy all hit a lot of key cards for spot removal, and Toxic Deluge, Pernicious Deed, and Casualties of War are good board wipes for a reasonable budget.

On top of that, Insidious Fungus and Creeping Mold are decent thematic options.

Spore Flower jumped to my mind, because it’s one of my favorite card-art examples, but I can’t think of a way to move spore counters off of it and onto a creature. At least, not at this moment. Anyone have any ideas, while I’m gone?

FormOverFunction That can be done by Nesting Grounds.

Thank you, legendofa, I figured there was a way! NTakamura it’s probably not a good idea, but I would fill all the slots you’re struggling to find cards for with pollen/plant type things for flavor. Haze of Pollen, Night Soil, basically anything that would cause breathing problems for those of us with allergies…

Tear Asunder is a card I would recommend to anyone running in their decks. At two mana it gets rid of Darksteel Colossus. At four it gets rid of Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre.

I know it's not a fungus, but Slippery Bogbonder is another card I would recommend. Sometimes, you're going to come into a scenario where you may need to activate an ability multiple times only to find your spore counters are too spread out. Or you come across a spell where you have to pick a creature and lose the rest. This card will solve this problem.

A good way to resist board wipes is The Ozolith.

If I think of any others I will be sure to post here. It would be cool if you would please post the deck either as a point of reference or when you are done so we may see the end result. Happy Hunting!
