Are slivers good anymore?
Commander Deck Help forum

I just got a Sliver Hivelord for free from one of my friends and I was interested in exploring the idea of a sliver EDH deck. But when I look at the decks on this website, none of them have been updated for like 6 months to a year. Are slivers even good anymore or have the new metas drowned them out?

To be fair, most Sliver EDH decks only get major revamps when new Slivers are printed or when trying a different theme. Usually there just aren't enough new cards being printed that are good enough they would warrant an inclusion in a 5-color, very tribal deck.
Also, the decks on here are in no way the determinants of any sort of EDH meta.

Raging_SquiggleGoldGhost012 Thank you for the responses I might switch to Overlord, I was interested because I got Hivelord for free, so that might change if I have to buy Overlord.

Slivers are fine until you get to the very highest levels of play (around a 9-10 on a scale from 1 to 10 in competitiveness). Just know that you're going to be coughing up money for Sliver Overlord, some rare slivers, and lots and lots of lands. Slivers tend to be pretty expensive to build comparatively speaking.

I have an Overlord EDH that I rarely use now due to its power. And while it may be true that no new cards (Sliver wise) have been printed since M15, there are a lot of support and/or combo cards for the beautiful little creatures.
Only thing to fret over is the price of the lands you would require to run the xeck as fast as possible. Yes you could substitute tap lands (Golgari Guildgate, Thornwood Falls) over Painlands or Shocklands (Llanowar Wastes, Breeding Pool) but the deck then becomes a waiting game and you most likely will already have crosshairs on your forehead to begin with so that = dead

A friend of mine runs a casual sliver deck with Sliver Hivelord at the helm, Hivelord Slivers EDH, he enjoys it, but not like he enjoys his other decks. Dual lands and some helpful enchantments easily fix any mana issues. He says the deck really plays around whether he draws good slivers or not.
Of course this can be fixed by Sliver Overlord, but my friend says the deck doesn't really feel fun at that point, tutoring exactly what you need every turn isn't as rewarding as one would hope it to be.
Good luck making your choice though!

GoldenDiggle What makes a deck fun though? I have been trying to figure that out for myself because the deck I currently run is Kozilek, the Demon Butcher of Zendikar and I think it's fun but it is also pretty easy to play. So is playing slivers not fun because it's not a challenge? I guess I need to evaluate what I think is fun before I commit to building a sliver deck because you did bring up a good point.

Playing Overlord is easy and in my opinion, not really meant to be fun for everyone. You just tutor out your infinite combo as fast as you can, play them, and win. That's what slivers do. They win either by combo or just straight up damage.

Slivers are evil if you can afford the mana base. Esp if you use Sliver Overlord as a tutor for anything you need. Changelings fit well here; there is one that changes a target into any creature type, then gain control of it via Overlord. I have played against this and can say I don't like facing it.

Hi, I think that this commander's ability don't have a lot of interections with others card, even with silver's creatures. Besides that, there are a lot of cards that can exile yours indestructible creatures. There are pentacolores' commander more interest. Look this site (http://edhrec.com/commanders/wubrg/)
Hugs!

dougtop, Raging_Squiggle, and Mj3913Yeah I was interested in making a Scion of the Ur-Dragon EDH deck, I got a bunch of dragons in a trade a little bit ago, I got a Savage Ventmaw, Ojutai, Soul of Winter, and Silumgar, the Drifting Death and a bunch of others and so I was thinking about making a dragon deck. So maybe I'll try to trade the Sliver Hivelord for a Scion and build off of that. I have 3 friends that I mainly play with, one of them runs and Child of Alara deck, one runs a Prossh, Skyraider of Kher and the other one switches between General Tazri and Vorel of the Hull Clade. I haven't had a chance to play my Kozilek, Butcher of Truth deck against them yet but I played it before I made a major revision from Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger to Kozilek. Anyways, I just want a deck that is strong but not OP because their decks all destroy me for the most part. The Child of Alara one is the strongest and he usually wins but for the most part everything is pretty balanced as-is so maybe I won't build a new deck. I just like the idea of having more than one deck to play so I can switch things up every once in a while.

Having more than one deck is actually very fun, I myself have 6 currently, then again, I prefer to switch it up every game.

I have 6 different decks at any given time and I rotate in a new one each month. Then again, my group plays around a full day of commander each week. Things get old for me real quick.

GoldenDiggle and TheDevicer I just got a Zurgo Helmsmasher, a Narset, Enlightened Master, and a Dwynen, Gilt-Leaf Daen in trades, how good of commanders are they? I heard Narset was Tier 1 or something like that.

Narset, if built competitively, can be ridiculously powerful. But equally un-interactive. But that's what voltron's do.

Raging_Squiggle Yeah I kinda new that for the most part, what about the other two?

KingCarter I believe that fun is based around mechanics that you like. Zurgo is interesting, think of him and Tajic, Blade of the Legion as similar cards, but one has black and costs a bit more, and easier to set up and pump, while the other is always indestructible and has better tribal (Humans>Orcs//Soldiers>Warriors), losing a color.
Dwynen is fun if you like elves, the big question is, do you like elves? Because if so, there are many different ways to build her, but losing out on Lorwyn and Shadowmoor multicolored elves can suck. (Or it does for me cause I like them.)

GoldenDiggle I have never played elves so I'm not sure if I like them or not, and I think I am intrigued by Zurgo, although I'm not really sure how to play him, is there something that forces opposing creatures to block him? Therefore getting him his +1/+1s quick or is it just the fact that because he is a 7/2 you HAVE to block him or resign to losing on the third turn due to commander damage? What is the philosophy behind Zurgo?

Ideally, slap trample on him so that he cant be chumped every time, and then either voltron or give him a good army to command.

GoldenDiggle Truuuu, thanks man, I'll look into it. How would I go about giving him a good army? Tokens or what?

None of those commanders are particularly good except for Narset. She has a bit of a reputation for cheating something like Time Stretch into action. People REALLY dislike her - mostly because they can't interact with her much.
Anyways, from a really high-level perspective, Narset isn't even that threatening. I'm again talking about that 9 to 10 on that scale from 1 to 10. There's one guy at our table that keeps trying to make her work, but she's sort of slow. Many people regard Zur the Enchanter as a much better option for a general that cheats stuff in.
So yea, Narset's fine but you won't be making friends with her.

Hi, I found the Scion of the Ur-Dragon more interesting because it is possible to make a good reanimate. It is likely that most of your mana distribution is green and black, and get ready to spend money on lands :/
I play two years years with the Kaalia's deck Kaalia EDH - Multiplayer and I'm build my second now, the Jarad's deck Jarad EDH - Multiplayer and I think important to have an alternative deck to try out different games.

No new slivers have come out so there's not a lot of reason to update decks beyond what they've become already.
And no, slivers are still good and very powerful. In my personal opinion I'd run Sliver Overlord as the commander since he is more consistent for tutoring combos and wincons.
