1-3 Thursday Night Magic —June 18, 2015
Here's the deal: (get ready for a wall of text)
Round 1 : Grixis Twin - 0-2 Loss
Round 2: UWr Geist Control 0-2 Loss
Round 3: Teribad 5-c slivers 2-0 Win (New player and a teen. Just in it for fun)
Round 4: Naya Burn 0-2 Loss (I fucked up...a lot. Both times I should have won but misplayed so bad I'm ashamed to be a modern player. Mental exhaustion got to me)
ALL games came extremely close. Literally every game. My deck has answers for days but for the life of it CAN'T CLOSE THE GAME OUT!!!
Noteworthy things of the night :
never once got to cast a butcher. Didn't even draw one. It was wierd.
Outpost Siege is WAAAAAY worse than Chandra. Hands down. x/1s are everywhere and sometimes pinging for one or preventing a blocker is just better.
Gurmag Angler was good. Like really good but really hard to cast reliably.
Crackling Doom did serious work every single game. People just don't expect it and it gets people more often than it seems.
This one dude played both Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir and Pearl Lake Ancient and DESTROYED in Jeskai twin. It was insane.
I started boarding Anger of the Gods in my Grixis delver to combat the CoCo decks. I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but it seems like a good place to start.

My thought is that I might have to move Outpost Siege to the sideboard for something else and Shift Stormbreath Dragon into something else. Not sure what though.

would having a few cards that hate on green be any good against chord/company elves?

I mean, Elves are really small in the current meta, so...

Anger of the Gods is only going to help you defeat elves and mono-g aggro. It will not help you defeat Collected Melira, CCHB or CCMB because they have Burrenton Forge-Tender in the side.
The one thing a CC player is REALLY scared of, is wraths. Run Damnation/Wrath of God and you win.

He could just kill the Forge-Tender before casting anger.

Actually it'll have to be wrath of god anyways. Elves has regen and pump

Also, you have no problems winning UNLESS they drop an Auriok Champion. Fiendslayer Paladin can be scary too.

Stormbreath Dragon = GG
Monastery Mentor is pretty brutal too.
Oh, and tips for you from playing against Jund: Jund is currently the only non CC deck that invalidates the board state advantage one gets from CC, and that's because of Dark Confidant. In a nutshell, one of the sneaky ways to stop CC is by utilizing your own card advantage. So Outpost Siege is a really good card here.

yeah, 'cause ya know Ambitious - Mardu Tokens is beginning to shape up.
possibly a +1 soon. I don't really know the Modern meta as of late so..
Congrats if you find fun with this deck. That's all I really look forward to in mine.

I've only been working on it for two years man. I'd hope it's been fun.
I could tell you for sure that the only really bad matchups are tron and bloom titan. It gets rough. We decimate Zoo/affinity/and delver. We're 50-50 give or take with all twin variants amd about 30-70 the underdog against Bg/x midrange but it's winnable for sure.
EDIT: About collected company decks : i think we're solid. The elf one is a little hard but i hope the sideboard gets there. Need a little more tests to be sure

I would have thought the deck would have a good match up gainst bloom titan - you have more than enough point removal and hand disruption. Not to mention dem Crackling Dooms...

From my experience, they are quick to get to one combo or the other. We can stop one but will often die to the other.
Your best bet is to make sure you Slaughter Pact their Hive Mind and hope you can survive their onslaught of titans. I've had Wurmcoil Engines boarded in vs me along with swagtusk and thrun and man that's a beating.

Alright we have a problem guys. Collected Company
Combo Company isn't as bad being that it is a combo deck and thus does have the silver bullet of Blood Moon + Slaughter Games plan but the real threat here is :
Elf Company : They out board us very quickly and have means to retrieve things from the grave which renders out discard a lot less effective. They also have Ezuri, which is like a 1 card trump to our entire deck with regen + trample effects
Hatebear/Zoo Company : Not so sure about this list yet. I haven't seen a full one yet but I suspect they will outboard us just as quickly.
What do you think? Is the end upon us?
