Went 2-1 at my LGS tonight, cracking into the prize pool for the first time!

Round 1: Beat Grixis Death's Shadow, 2-0:

Seems like a good matchup. Our opponent is actively helping us lower their life total. While individually their threats are bigger or more evasive, we have more of them, and can also win out of nowhere with Aspect of Hydra, so this normally aggressive deck can find itself uncomfortably on the defensive against us. I boarded in Scavenging Ooze to help keep them off delirium, Veil of Summer to punish stuff like Thoughtseize, Fatal Push, Terminate, and Kolaghan's Command, and Dismember to help interact with their board.

Round 2: Lost to Stoneblade, 0-2:

Kaldra Compleat is kind of a beating. It's the reason I replaced Gemrazer with Deglamer in the sideboard after this tournament. Luckily, Dismember still hits it, as a 0/0 still dies no matter how indestructible it is. Plan A here has got to be to kill or disable Stoneforge Mystic, so I brought in Phyrexian Revoker, Thrash / Threat, and Dismember. Maybe next time I will draw more of them than my opponent draws Mystics.

Round 3: Beat Mono-Blue Merfolk, 2-1:

This time, I ignored Aether Vial completely, going instead for maximum creature removal, and it seemed to pay off. Their creatures are much more synergistic than ours, so if they reach critical mass on the board, we're doomed. We need to do our best midrange impression, making as many 1 for 1 trades as possible while sticking a threat like Hexdrinker or Steel Leaf Champion that is capable of closing out a game on its own. I brought in Dismember, Thrash / Threat for removal, and Veil of Summer to deal with Merfolk Trickster. The game I lost was game 1 where I didn't have enough removal to keep Svyelun of Sea and Sky off of indestructible.

Looking forward to next week!
