Commander 2018 Update —Aug. 11, 2018

There are a lot of cool new cards in C18. Especially the Exquisite Invention deck has a ridiculous little dude, which is a nobrainer to include. I'm talking about Treasure Nabber. He ramps, he disrupts, he steals artifacts, he is mean and he is red - Whatelse could this deck need? So let's say you get him out on turn 3. If you only get a single artifact from him you get Daretti out next turn and maybe already sacrifice the stolen mana rock with his -2. There are countless other synergies: You can sac the stolen piece with Krark-Clan Ironworks, Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer, Kuldotha Forgemaster or any welding effect for value or just so they don't get it back. There is also the synergy with Unwinding Clock which is kind of ridiculous because you can use the mana rocks you steal before your turn. The most obnoxious combo, however, comes with the old faithful: Mycosynth Lattice. For every land that is tapped when the Lattice is out you gain control of that land. If you think about it, Daretti just got a play which is kinda as impactful as Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger. The card I decided to cut for the Nabber is Skullclamp. The clamp only really synergizes with like Pentavus and Myr Retriever. It's a really strong piece of card draw, but I don't think it is needed that hard in here and in this deck it's a really bad turn 1 play.

The other card I decided to include from the new C18 cards is Forge of Heroes. Adding a loyalty counter to Daretti the turn he comes into play won't be game changing or breaking and there are commanders which profit from it much more than he does. But it's a nice benefit since it saves you a turn or a Contagion Engine/The Chain Veil activation until you get to the Emblem. Also copying the ability with Rings of Brighthearth is a nice synergy. I cut Hanweir Battlements  Meld for it because it was kinda weak and probably the least flavourful card in the deck. Also I don't really want to cut any more Mountains because of Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle.

Last but not least I decided to include Meteor Golem for Hellkite Igniter. And with the Hellite there goes pretty much the only remaining fair wincon of the deck. He is good but I think without having access to black, white or green removals, any removal just bears so much value and the Golem provides just that. The Hellkite has no interaction with any other card in the deck. He just comes into play and attacks for maybe 10, 15, 20 damage in the air. He cannot be protected, sacrificed, reanimated nothing, so he had to go one day or another.

you are missing Hellkite Tyrant

ticked-off-squirrel, no I'm not. Maybe you should read the description before commenting.

Let me help you out: Under "Card Selection" > "Honorable Mentions" you can read:

"Hellkite Tyrant: I used to run this guy a long time and he won me a couple of games as well. However, at least as many times he got stolen or copied and then he lost me the game. He's just such a huge risk to play."

Still thanks for the comment.
