Tyvar the Bellicose

Legendary Creature — Elf Warrior

Whenever one or more Elves you control attack, they gain deathtouch until end of turn.

Each creature you control has "Whenever a mana ability of this creature resolves, put a number of +1/+1 counters on it equal to the amount of mana this creature produced. This ability triggers only once each turn."

While V.A.T.S. is on the stack you can indeed change your creatures toughness with Tyvar the Bellicoses ability.

However, do note that V.A.T.S. doesn’t “target”, it chooses a number of creatures during its resolution - and when this is happening there will be no chance to respond to this (as the spell is resolving).

So, in response to someone casting V.A.T.S. you could use Tyvar to try and give as many of your creatures different toughnesses as possible. But, then V.A.T.S. will resolve and whoever cast it will be able to destroy the creatures with the same toughness of their choosing

Tyvar the Bellicose and V.A.T.S.

First of all, I'm assuming I can activate stuff like Fyndhorn Elves because split second doesn't stop mana abilities or triggered abilities.

Say I have Tyvar the Bellicose, Llanowar Elves, and Elvish Mystic on the battlefield. In response to V.A.T.S. targeting both mana dorks, I tap one of them to become a 2/2 thanks to Tyvar, what happens? Does the spell Fizzle? Does only the the 1/1 die? Can they choose between either one? What happens if they cast V.A.T.S. targeting both as 1/1s and in response I tap them and they both become 2/2s?

I tried looking this up online the only answers I could find were "doesn't matter because you can't do anything in response to split second" and "idk".

wallisface Sorry for the late reply but these days have been quite busy eheh. Maybe i've explained my self badly: by aggro I meant finishing the opponent with creatures attacking his Total Life but the strategy of the deck Is mainly disrupting the opponent gameplan via discard spells . Its a slow gameplan revolving around dorks , only ways to pump them Is using [elvish archdruid] as a lord and/or Tyvar the Bellicose and Tyvar Kell +1 . Or again with Nath of the Gilt-Leaf continuing the discard Plan while creating 1/1 tokens. And the ability to potentially turn 1/1s into deathtouch attackers via Tyvar the Bellicose and Gnarlroot Trapper seemed to me as a good idea. Again , i've imagined this deck as a slow "control discard " which finish the game via aggro .

msimcoe First of all i'd like to thank you for the detailed comment . For the mana base : i was thinking from the start about the fetch+shock lands modern Staples but i tried to avoid them because of the Life loss: with all the dorks that let me add mana while losing Life i thought It was a bit risky to try the Classic fetch + shock and i find the mana fix in this deck to be quite easily manageable . I tried Woodland Cemetery too but i found that sometimes It came tapped early in the game . [Fury] and dork removal Is the reason im playing target discard , to enable the dorks plays discarding their removal spells. But you're definitely right about the pure discard being Better later in the game , especially with Nath of the Gilt-Leaf. I've imagined this list to be a slower Elf ramp: "defending" the early plays by controlling the opponent hand i think its crucial for the strategy. But still , to find the perfect balance between the early targeted discard and the generic discard its something do be done here. I'll definitely try funeral charm by removing 2 target discard cards. I find Devoted Druid to be quite a nice addiction here because It has good sinergies with Tyvar the Bellicose and the +1 Tyvar Kell : to turn the mana dorks into Little beaters throught those cards was one of the approach i took while Building the deck. Do you think that this strategy Is lackluster ( keep in mind the slower-controllish way of this build) ? Harmonize feels good when It hits but you're right , im looking for some other draw engine to keep the flow going and i Will try Beast Whisperer for sure. What do you think about Harald Unites the Elves ? Maybe its Just me loving this card but i think It deserves a Place somewhere ahah.

PS. This Go Blank Will definitely find a Place in the sideboard . Yes , your input has been very helpful.
