The Sixth Doctor

Legendary Creature — Time Lord Doctor

Time Lord's Prerogative — Whenever you cast a historic spell, copy it, except the copy isn't legendary. This ability triggers only once each turn. (Artifacts, legendaries, and Sagas are historic. A copy of a permanent spell becomes a token.)

The Sixth Doctor / Peri Brown is something I built recently. It does provide a lot of value out of the Command Zone but the challenge for me was the consistency of the deck while combining so many themes (flash, convoke, historic tribal, and ways to copy the Doctor's trigger or tokens). It's been an absolute blast to pilot and you're welcome to check out the list to see if it's something up your alley. Dopplegangbangers - Historic Flash Convoke Copies

Last_Laugh on Tokens From Copying Spells Copied …

Sorry if the title doesn't initially make sense...

If The Sixth Doctor's non-legendary token has already resolved and entered the battlefield and I copy it with an effect like Esika's Chariot. Does that token copy the cmc since the Dr's token has that characteristic from rule 111.12? I'm assuming 111.3 covers this, but the example given is literally the opposite and is the result of copying a token without any cmc, so I want to double check before misquoting a rule (The Sixth Doctor / Peri Brown has led to a few friendly arguments already lol).

Thanks in advance rules gurus!

Barbara Wright provides some skip-ability for your sagas. Blink offers some pseudo removal. Displaced Dinosaurs makes your sagas 7/7 dinos. Ian Chesterton will let you dump excess mana into saga copies. The Fourth Doctor will let you play sagas from the top of your library. The Sixth Doctor copies your sagas. Traverse Eternity is a reliable and psuedo-discounted Time Walk.

Hey Gidgetimer. I had a follow up question re: The Sixth Doctor copies. Do you know of any other ways to make extra copies? I run Twinning Staff, Strionic Resonator, and Roaming Throne.

Dopplegang Bangers - Historic Flash Convoke Copies for reference.

There are a couple of problems with the interaction that means that you will not get extra value. I'll present the one you postulated first and then a larger problem that might make you reconsider running both cards in the same deck.

They resolve in the wrong order for the non-token to double the token. When you cast Adrix and Nev, Twincasters The Sixth Doctor triggers and goes on the stack above Adrix and Nev. When the The Sixth Doctor trigger resolves it will make a copy of the spell, which goes on the stack above the original and resolves first.

The second, and bigger, problem is that tokens resulting from copying a permanent spell are never "created". Adrix and Nev, Twincasters has no interaction with The Sixth Doctor. This goes for Doubling Season and Parallel Lives as well as anything that cares about "creating" tokens.

111.12. A copy of a permanent spell becomes a token as it resolves. The token has the characteristics of the spell that became that token. The token is not “created” for the purposes of any replacement effects or triggered abilities that refer to creating a token.

I'm trying to figure out if The Sixth Doctor copies Adrix and Nev, Twincasters as I cast it, would I get 3 total copies? When the original resolves, does the token one on the stack enter as 2 copies because the first recognizes and doubles it? Or would they resolve in the wrong order?

You get to keep all of them. The replacement effect in Twinning Staff's first ability changes the number of copies an effect would make, but doesn't change anything else about how that effect works. This means the "except the copy isn't legendary" part of The Sixth Doctor's effect would apply to all the copies it makes.

If I copy a legendary with The Sixth Doctor and Twinning Staff, would I keep all 3 copies? Or would the one from Twinning Staff be a legendary still and immediately die?
