Icbrgr on Niv-Mizzet is the chance for a win

Dont get me wrong I really like Planar Genesis and use it all the time but I find it to be a better in "I'm looking for a combo piece" situation (land comes into play tapped) where something like Growth Spiral gives sequencing for playing it on turn 2 and possibly playing blue source to have mana open for Spell Pierce so you draw ramp and have counter magic (just feels more powerful imo if I had to choose between the two).

Ominous Seas and Rowan, Scholar of Sparks  ^Flip seem cute but could/should probably be replaced by any combination of Shark Typhoon (it either makes a huge token or becomes a wincon in itself) and Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student  ^Flip is not only powerful (your opponent has to deal with it) but has so much synergy with your card choices like Flame of Anor... Magmatic Channeler is something that I have tried in the past ... it's just okay.

Icbrgr I was doubtful about Endurance and Rowan, Scholar of Sparks  ^Flip and i don't know what's the better option between Growth Spiral and Planar Genesis. U think of Magmatic Channeler taking the place of Ominous Seas or something else? Ty fir the advice

I think Shark Typhoon is just better than Ominous Seas... maybe Magmatic Channeler or Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student  ^Flip would be better options?.... huge thumbs up from me on this brew!

Thank you! I think if I were to run Light Up the Stage I would cut Magmatic Channeler... because of Dreadhorde Arcanist it typically never get the power/toughness boost and is used to draw cards 9/10 times... I will sift through my bulk cards and give it a try!

dunno if you will try to port this type of thing to modern, but for comparison, here are some comparative upgrades you could make

-Disfigure => Dismember (not a clean swap, may depend on your usage)

-Lightning Strike => Lightning Bolt

-Play with Fire => more Lightning Bolt?

-Searing Blaze?(how important is the scry)

-Morbid Opportunist => Grim Haruspex

-Seize the Storm => hard to replace 1:1, but it's expensive. maybe Dreadhorde Arcanist or Magmatic Channeler

also lands. i wont dive that deep here but ofc the land base standard => modern are quite different

Hey, I have been trying this card (Dragon's Rage Channeler) in burn, and it occurred to me that maybe it can help you activate Pyromancer Ascension... And it also reminded me of Magmatic Channeler.

Idk, it felt that maybe they can help you feed the graveyard and give you extra gas. Also take a look at March of Reckless Joy, Valakut Awakening  ^Flip and Reckless Impulse :)

Thank you so much for the compliments Balaam__. I haven't actually got around to testing the deck yet so I'm unsure on how Scourge of the Skyclaves. It can grow really huge with all the damage we are taking and we have a lot of ways to damage the opponents too (especially because we are such a creature heavy deck). I did consider Magmatic Channeler while building and it could definitely be a great inclusion. That's the problem with deck building: there are too many choices. Once I get around to playtesting I'll let you know.

Impeccable design. Very impressive, particularly because of the bargain basement budget allotted. Does Scourge of the Skyclaves perform consistently well in your playtesting? It’s the one possible point of concern when I reviewed this. Maybe it’s personal bias (I did not care for Zendikar Rising at all) but it seems the most likely candidate for an upgrade. Magmatic Channeler perhaps?
