Because Assault Formation.

Standard Budget BUG (Sultai)

MtCitynumber4

Sideboard

This is a deck I used in a Game Day tournament, and I came in 13th out of 20. I still think this is a good deck, and it is extremely cheap. I got the whole thing, including sideboard, for around 21 dollars, and the Languish playset is about 40% of that. If you want an extremely cheap deck that is still good in Standard, go with this, or even replace the Languish with Flaying Tendrils or Death Frenzy if you are really cheap.

Match 1: Me vs. 4-color deck. In the first game, I was able to swing at my opponent for lethal, but he had Shambling Vent untapped and was able to keep his life total higher than mine for the rest of the game. He also had Chandra, Flamecaller and kept throwing 3/1s at me which was very hard to counter. His copies of Duress hurt me a lot as well. Lost 2-0. Match 2: Bye. Won 2-0. Match 3: Me vs. Red/Green Eldrazi Ramp. I was unable to get my Assault Formation out onto the field fast enough to do any significant damage before my opponent played their Ulamogs and Ugins. She also had Chandra, Flamecaller, which did not help. In games 1 and 3, at least, her Ugin smashed all of my cards with its 2nd ability, and generally dominated the game. In game 2, however, I was able to get out Disowned Ancestor and Assault Formation, and got an easy win. Lost 2-1. Match 4: Me vs. Black/White Removal. Since they had a removal deck, I was able to get Assault Formation out in both games despite not drawing it in my opening hand. However, they kept using spells like Stasis Snare on my creatures, which kept setting me back. I came up with more and more creatures, though, but was unable to do much damage. I had a Silumgar's Command in hand (which I removed from the deck afterward) but I misused it, which led to a loss in Game 1. In Game 2, my opponent got Ob Nixilis out early in the game, and controlled it from there. Lost 2-0. Match 5: Me vs. Red/Blue Prowess Aggro. At least I think that's what it's called. My opponent came out hard, but I was able to get defensive creatures onto the battlefield (all my creatures are defensive, of course) and stop his attack. I pretty much controlled it from there. Won 2-0.
