SKELETONS!

Deck Help forum

So I'd love to make a Skeletons EDH deck. Could anyone link me some good lists? I know Skeletons aren't really competitive. I've just got a nostalgia itch from watching Jason and the Argonauts!

Skeletons are my favorite tribe. Do you have a color preference?

This link has some of the decks on TappedOut that people have made.

EDHRec is a good resource for pulling ideas and seeing what cards are commonly used.

(Apologies, I don't have links enabled.)

As far as color goes, black is vital. Green is probably the next best, for Skeletal Swarming if nothing else. Red isn't critical, but offers options like Flameskull, Lightning Skelemental, and the new Gut, True Soul Zealot. Blue is weak; Demilich is okay in a spell-heavy build, and Skeleton Ship and Mortus Strider have good art. White has virtually nothing for skeletons specifically, but Brave the Sands and Mark of Asylum and that sort of thing is useful if you have a lot of regenerators.

DID I HEAR JANKY TRIBES?

I'd say skeletons should be at least Golgari, but probably Jund. I'm saying this based solely on my playstyle, which yours doesn't need to be the same as.

The reason I'd like Jund is because a lot of skeletons regenerate or can come back from the graveyard. So, I'd make a deck with lots of wraths that wouldn't hurt me as much since they can regenerate, hence the red.

I'd start with Jund, its fits the colors of nearly every skeleton printed, gives plenty of removal, ramp and utility cards. Skeletons tend to die and come back, so maybe some sort of Kresh the Bloodbraided sacrifice deck. Have things like Butcher of Malakir and Goblin Bombardment, sac your creatures to make your opponents sac things to make Kresh bigger and swing in.

If you want the blue for those last few skeletons, Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder could be a great fit, cascade into more skeletons and swing with an army.

Jund sounds correct, but maybe instead of Kresh the Bloodbraided, go with Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper?

His tokens are as close to skeletons as possible without actually being those, and he fits the flavour of a skeleton army flooding the battlefield.

This would basically be a aristocrat-esque tribal deck that could dish out quite a lot of damage with Impact Tremors, Warstorm Surge and other similar cards.

You already want to recurr creatures, so Tortured Existence and Phyrexian Reclamation seem useful.

Also: Underworld Sentinel is an underestimated powerhouse.

When I said Jund, I actually considered Tormod, the Desecrator and Tana, the Bloodsower. Mainly because Tormod just sinergizes very well with a lot of skeletons and some Skeleton support also supports zombies too (namely Death Baron and Death-Priest of Myrkul.

Another option, but 4 colored, would be still Tana, the Bloodsower now with Ravos, Soultender. You can still have Tormod in the deck, still have access to a lot o reccursion (even in your commander) and get a lot of good anthems, and tribal support, in white.

Thanks everyone,

Decided to go for Mono black for now as it's going to be a casual deck, and I already have two Golgari EDH decks. Gone with Skitheryx as the commander.

  1. Harryhausen truly blessed us all.
  2. I would recommend also considering any card that has skeleton-related art. That would give you all sorts of other options like Diabolic Tutor.

FormOverFunction Yep I bloody love Jason and The Argonauts!

I also have one of the new vampiric tutors I might be able to put in!
