Opinions: Modern Milling

Can milling work in Modern on the back of Halimar Excavator? I think this build has some potential: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/modern-mill-alies/

Any opinions and/or advice would be appreciated.

Forgive me, I incorrectly posted the link. This should be better:

I can definitely see some potential in this. And you get points for creativity - can't say I've ever seen Allies and milling in the same deck before.

Some things that can help you: AEther Vial, Cavern of Souls, Kira, Great Glass-Spinner, Mutavault, maybe Mirror Mockery?

I dont wnat you to be turned off of the idea, but one thing I have noticed with milling in Modern is that people run out of gas very quickly.

I have been on the receiving end of a mill strategy on many occasions from many players and many different ways to do it. All of them have started explosively, then got crushed by a really REALLY huge Tarmogoyf.

I am honestly surprised that mill does not adopt some form of removal or counter in their MB to combat the lone dude that gets dropped against them. Albeit goyf of whatever else.

But either way, the deck looks interesting on paper. It looks like something that I would fiddle around with for fun.

If you do plan on taking to a tournament, make sure you wont run out of gas.

The deck definitely looks interesting, but it seems slow. You don't start actually milling a significant amount of cards until turns 3-5, whereas you could simply play Glimpse the Unthinkable and Mind Funeral, which mill 10 and average around 10 cards, respectively.

I also don't think the Tron lands are a good fit here; ideally you want to run four of each, along with a set of Expedition Maps so that you can consistently get them out.

The idea is still worth pursuing, but it'll need some tweaking. I can see it having some success at the FNM level, but you'll want to make some changes before going any further.

Visions of Beyond is a very strong card for milling strategies - essentially an Ancestral Recall after your first few turns. With so many low-costing creatures and spells, you'll want the card draw to keep your hand full, especially because you aren't playing Remands and Cryptic Commands.

I'd also replace Jace. He's easily removed and lacks protection, especially because you'll want to 0 him every time. If you want to put more money into the deck, splashing black might be a good idea for the aforementioned Glimpses. You don't get more efficient at milling than those.

That deck has somehow given me the idea to use Shapesharer and other clones to make copies of Hedron Crab, then Scapeshift one's way to milltown. Though obviously if you are using Scapeshift you might as well just use Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle...still fun though.

Thank you for the feedback! I've added some cards to the list that I think make it stronger and faster. If possible, give it a second look and let me know what you think.
