Timetwister loops

Commander Deck Help forum

I know Timetwister loops need like a Noxious Revival or a Memory's Journey and an infinite draw engine, but what do you do from there besides Swan Song? Also what types of cEDH decks would want to use them?

personally its the only thing missing from my cedh nekusar primer list in paper form.. having an Underworld Dreams out in a timetwister loop is very satisfying lol

but theoretically its the only power 9 card legal in edh and is thus included in a vazt majority of blue decks who can afford to run it. im sure there are a few exceptions but I've seen a timetwister in most blue cedh lists that are fully optimal

if you want to build a deck around twister i would recommend a commander that benefits from the infinite draws like Nekusar, the Mindrazer, Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix, Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind, The Locust God, Edric, Spymaster of Trest

Timetwister, in conjunction with Timespiral, allows Grand Arbiter to use Stroke of Genius as a finisher over Blue Sun's Zenith, thereby freeing the deck from some ultra massive mana constraints. Those aren't true loops, but you only need to loop Stroke 3 Times to kill the board.

I need this card. It makes me sad.

Swan Song is the most common one, but you can mix it with cards like Praetor's Grasp if you're running combo hate or even just a simple Lightning Bolt/Galvanic Blast which can be a very effective one drop removal spell outside of combo. Hell, one deck I've seen uses it to loop Nature's Claim on your own rock to gain a bunch of life and then Rolling Earthquake for the win.

So additional question: what blue decks do not want to run Timetwister? It just tweets like a card that should be run in every blue deck that is bugdetless.

Animar doesn't need it as it's not really on gameplan. Edric has enough draw to not need it. It's too clunky in Derevi. Anything with Seasons Past can get by without it. Basically twister's a house but has some real downsides if used carelessly and can easily get people out of holes. It's a staple for sure, and deservedly so, but I wouldn't include it in a budget-less deck just cuz it's got blue.
