I am a deck builder who has an unfortunate habit of going between having no deck ideas and having great ideas for decks I can’t afford. The ideas are mostly centered in Modern and EDH, with some dabblings into Legacy and are placed in a area between Competitive answers Casual Magic.

Those cards would probably be saved to counter the hulk trigger, but yeah it would be a major blowout NoOneOfConsequence.

For the staxy build of Vannifar I personally feel that it won’t do as well as a combo version, simply because she requires sacrifice fodder and sacrificing stax pieces to get more stax doesn’t seem great.

Also my chain lines usually stop at 6 for Deadeye Navigator and Triskelion , though my deck has a large focus on getting Thornbite Staff out as soon as possible.

Overall I don’t believe Vannifar is T1 but T2/3. She has a lot of potential but won’t quite get there.

Winterblast my point exactly. The main point was not about Willow Satyr, but how commander centric of a deck it is and how that does not make it glass cannon.

Vannifar is about as glass cannon as every other commander-based combo deck, plus the addition of blue. During my playtesting sessions my commander got stolen from me with Willow Satyr and I was unable to recover from that. This concept of getting rid of a commander could neuter pretty much all commander-based decks. Also there is not one single card that Vannifar revolves around besides Vannifar that without it you lose. One of the whole points of the deck is to have multiples lines to victory so that if you accidentally draw Craterhoof Behemoth in the early game, or Flash gets Praetor's Grasped you just switch lines.

The fact that the creatures she (thank you I wasn’t able to tell gender) tutors for do not stay on the battlefield. Yisan’s tutored creatures do stay on the battlefield. This means that when versing, Yisan can grab a Quirion Ranger, for example, and use it multiple times throughout the game. The Quirion Ranger that was originally use to untap Yisan again for verse 2 can be used to weaken the effects of an opposing Static Orb after developing a board state. The Quirion Ranger that Vannifar grabs is used once to untap Vannifar, then sacrificed in order to climb up the chain.

The fact that Yisan develops a board state also affects mana production. Big mana producers will not produce as much because there are less creatures on the board. Yisan can also just win through straight combat damage because of he board state he develops.

How competitive do you want this combo to be? It seems like a good line, I hadn't considered the use of Thousand-Year Elixir along with Trophy Mage. Your line is also quite budget on the mana requirements, only needing to win with. I brewed a draft of a cEDH version of Vannifar, I hope you'll find the lines in there useful. Vannichains for cEDH

Said on 4C Yisan...

#7

Won't Prime Speaker Vannifar need a separate chain in the 99 since its a creature, like Yisan, so it would need untapping, but unlike Yisan and like Birthing Pod it sacrifices creatures. How would you incorporate it seamlessly into your deck as redundancy?

I still doubt Vannifar would be t1. He reminds of a Simic Yisan and there already has been much debate on wether Yisan should be moved down or not. As for Sisay, she fetches Paradox Engine in one go, rather than climbing the Chain with Vannifar as you stated. T2 would be my predicted placement, just like Yisan.

Thank you for the explanation. Also I am curious to know what your opinions on whether Vannifar will be seen more in the 99 or as a commander.

I hadn’t considered hulk lines for the list I’m working on, silly me. Also MightyDarknut can you explain what the Ezuri sage combo is? And I’m torn in the how condensed the combos should be after reading the Momir Hackball Primer about concerning the win conditions about how the number of moving parts is beneficial.

Ok, third party attempting to make a separate discussion: Where do you all think Prime Speaker Vannifar will be places in the cEDH meta? Personally I’m predicting that he’ll be placed around t3 or possibly t2.

Also considering that the last thing that was banned was Leovold who got banned because of how unfun and unfair games would become after the lock, I doubt that a commander similar to Momir Vig would get banned.

What’s p-engine?

I’ve heard about Prime Speaker Vannifar being banned before and I just don’t get it. It’s definitely either T1 or T2 but not bannable if Hermit Druid and Flash Hulk are still legal.

Could you add some popular DD commanders in the card list so people have an easy to find reference?
