Bladewing the Risen deck intended to be my fastest dragon deck, but is my slowest!

Commander Deck Help forum

Hello all!

I built my deck Shadow and Flame with the intention of using the graveyard as a way to accelerate the proliferation of my dragons. Of my three dragon decks, I wanted it to be the fastest!

However, it plays the slowest starting of all for the following reason - the early game is when the graveyard is the emptiest! So now in the early game, I usually start out with a hand that has expensive dragons, or cards that resuscitate dragons from the graveyard. Unfortunately, both are useless because I can't afford to legit cast the dragons, and there are no dragons in the graveyard to play the resuscitate cards on!

What would you suggest I include to consistently ensure I have a stocked graveyard as early in the game as possible?

Thanks!

Since you play red, you have access to looting effect such as Faithless Looting, Burning Inquiry, Cathartic Reunion or even Gamble or Collective Brutality. These are cheap spells that can be cast early in the game and insure your 4-mana reanimation spell is useful on T3/4 ;)

Catalog9000, no offense dude but both Tibalt AND One with nothing are almost unplayable.

You don't wanna get rid you your reanimation spells nor the creatures you can/intend cast. The fact that the cards you mentioned have this really random aspect is awful because it prevents you from scultping a better hand on the long term. The looting spells let you get rid of what you don't wanna to play/want to reanimate while giving you more resources to work with.

However, a deck with OwN would sure have some style.

Okay, y'alls ideas inspired me to to do some specific digging and I found the following cards that allow looting or dredge, but are precise as well as quick to put into action -

Bog Witch

Call the Bloodline

Cryptbreaker

Darkblast

Deal Broker

Faithless Looting

Jalum Tome

Key to the City

Rummaging Goblin

Tin Street Market

Tomb Robber

Trading Post

Urza’s Tome

Thoughts?

You want ramp in your opening hand and you want it cheap. That means running something like 13 rocks, all around 2 CMC. Signets, Talismans, fellwar stone, everflowing chalice, Prismatic Lens, etc.

Oh, and Sneak Attack is also good for this, but it's already in my deck :)
