Check out my trostani deck. I love the combos for this type of deck. Easily my favorite commander deck I own. Gift of Life Gain

Thanks Vinman. There are several really powerful combos that come up. completely crushed an entire 4 man pod the other night by dropping Doubling Season one turn, Avenger of Zendikar the following turn and getting 20 tokens, only to devour them with the Mycoloth getting him 80 counters (40 with "Devour 2", doubled from Doubling Season ). Needless to say, the 160 tokens he was spitting out each turn after caused people to just scoop.

That's awesome. Good use for tokens instead of just putting them out. Things get crazy when doubling season, parallel lives, trostani, and storm herd are all out/played.

Vinman I like Storm Herd it is an ok card, but the high mana cost always puts me off from using it. Entreat the Angels seems like a much more versatile card and has a variable casting cost so it can be good early or late game. I had one in this deck at one point but it got moved to another deck. I may get another one to put it back though as it was nice to have.

I'm considering Phyrexian Processor for my Trostani deck but is it edh legal if the token's black and commander colors are green and white?

fullms1 sorry for the extremely delayed response, but I never got a notification that you posted. To the best of my knowledge, it is perfectly fine. Since the card itself is colorless, and the mana required to trigger it is also colorless, it is fine for a commander deck, regardless of the color tokens that it produces. I'm not an expert or rules lawyer, but from my understanding there is no problem with it.

I have a Jund dragon commander deck with a sword artifact that can turn into a blue spirit dragon which has always been allowed, so I assume that it would fall under the same ruling. I've played that one several times at store events and no one has ever questioned it.

My one suggestion that I trot out for everyone's Trostani deck is Nacatl War-Pride - while this card is not all that good, it does have some weird aspects that make it interesting tech in Trostani. For one, it can make a lot of tokens - that's a lot of Cathar's Crusade triggers, a lot of Aura Shard triggers, a lot of lifegain with Trostani, and it can tie up blockers to enable a lethal attack or whatever. What's worth noting, though, is that the tokens it makes are exact copies of itself - which is to say, if you populate one, the populated copy won't be exiled at the end of the turn, and if it survives to attack it will make copies of its own. It's durdly, sure, but the potential upside is fairly high.

I also like Collective Blessing more than I like Intangible Virtue - sure, Virtue comes down early, but Blessing is generally a more impactful buff.

GoldenDemon I really like Nacatl War-Pride, definitely a maybe. I used to run Collective Blessing in the deck, but it was fairly slow and another dead card early on. Intangible Virtue may not give you that extra +2 / +2, but I think that the vigilance that it gives you makes up for it.

GoldenDemon Decided that I could make Collective Blessing fit into the deck again. I kept Intangible Virtue as well though. Can't go wrong with both.

Hahaha can't argue with that logic

Hornet Queen?

Ender02 says... #12

Quartz definitely an interesting and functional addition. The same problem applies to everything else on my maybe list though; What do I take out to make room for it?

Have you considered Dual Nature? It would help with getting more tokens and extra etb effects

Ender02 says... #14

It is an interesting possibility, but unfortunately it would help opponents as much as myself. I don't like the negative aspect of it either. Maybe as something to hold onto until later game. I will play around with it ad see.

Elspeth Tirel would rock in this deck. She gains life for creatures, generates tokens, and field-wipes everything but lands and tokens. Her ultimate ability doesn't kill her either, so says the official ruling on the Gatherer.

Ender02 says... #16

Make sense, her card specifically says "all other" so that would exclude her. I'll definitely put her on the maybe list. To be honest, if I owned one, she would likely already be in there despite the fact that I'm not a huge fan of Plainswalkers in Commander.

Enlightened Tutor would be really good in this deck with all the artifacts and enchantments. Ramp could also help a bit, with Birds of Paradise, Skyshroud Claim, and Kodama's Reach being my top suggestions.

Azure17 I agree that Enlightened Tutor looks useful. I'm not a huge fan of single use cards though. I much prefer ones that are permanent or have some sort of recursion.

As for the Ramp, while more is always nice, having only a couple wouldn't make much of a difference. The deck seems to run ok most of the time as far as mana goes anyway. Once in a great while it is a little slower than I would like, but there is enough life gain to compensate for it if things take a turn or two longer than normal.

Cryptolith Rite Would make for some really good mana ramp, especially with all the creatures you'd be generating with your token engines.

r3cl41m3r I think there is already one in the deck. I know it was on the want list a bit ago and it's not there now, so I think I added one and just forgot to update it. I agree that it is a very good card with the number of creatures the deck produces.

Two great cards for this are Test of Endurance and Triumph of the Hordes.

Also, why Minion Reflector?

Any thoughts on Triumph of the Hordes? To shut down other lifegain decks, also a decent finisher anyway

Thanks for the comments guys.

Test of Endurance used to be in the deck. It was cut at some point for other stuff. I liked having the extra win condition in there, but there were other things that I wanted to try out. Felidar Sovereign pretty much accomplishes the same effect as a creature instead of an Enchantment too. It might get put back in at some point.

Triumph of the Hordes is a good card, but I never liked the infect mechanic, especially in Commander. It is just too cheesy of a way to knock someone out in a game with 40 life. I try to avoid it whenever possible as do the people that I play with. It would work really well in the deck though is someone else wants to add it for their play group.

Minion Reflector combos nicely with several cards in the deck. Basically anything with an "enters the battlefield" effect can be exploited with that card. Nothing like playing an Avenger of Zendikar and getting another one for 2 mana, or similar things. Sure you don't get to keep the copy, but you get to keep the extra tokens generated or whatever from the ETB effect. Not to mention the fact that the copy you create gets haste so you can cast any creature and get a copy of it that can attack that turn for 2 mana. There aren't as many ETB effect cards in the deck as their used to be though, so it is something that may eventually get cycled out.

Nice deck! Got a couple ideas, although you might already know about how good these cards are with Trostani...Storm Herd effectively doubles your life total and Desolation Twin makes one of the biggest tokens in magic. Happy gathering :)

Ender02 says... #25

Both of those were in the deck at one point. I'm not a huge fan of sticking Eldrazi into anything other than Eldrazi decks (though I have done it before). The new ones are not nearly as bad as the original ones though.

That said, I had considered putting back at least Storm Herd but the real question is what to remove for them?
