I currently need/want advice on my sideboard. I think my mainboard is pretty much settled, so I want to help improve my matchups during games 2 and 3.
This Friday is going to be the final week to play a
Relentless Rats
deck in a Standard FNM, so I want to make good use of that!
I have had many many ideas on how to beef up the rats and make them most effective, but I would love to hear the ideas of everyone else to help me get the most competetive deck I can.
I have considered UB Rats for control, but I'm not sure I like the idea of having to leave mana open on turns when I should be casting rat after rat. Mono-black would help with the mana base and provide more accessible spot removal and hand disruption (which can be put in any of the versions, obviously. There is just more room in monoblack).
I finally settled on BG Rats to begin my testing. One card convinced me to use this version -
Doubling Chant
. It doubles the number of Rats I have in play, which can be devastating. The other card I considered is Overwhelming Stampede. Both are great win conditions in this deck, but I feel like there is only room for one.
I chose
Doubling Chant
as it gives a boost to all my rats permanently and will always net me more power total. I will always be attacking for N less and without trample this way though, where N is the number of Rats on the board when cast, but I feel that is a fair trade off to having stronger blockers for the next turn. The argument could be made either way that the Stampede would win some games outright if resolved, which I realize, but this can also win games if resolved, just 1 turn later and with protection for myself.
