No, thats not the name of a Japanese gameshow, thats our deck title :D

This is a surprisingly competitive deck crafted on a shoestring budget. Im very pleased with how it turned out, and I hope you enjoy it too.

Idalia may boast of tenantless Shades, but this bi-forked Hill supplies all the mana we will ever need.

With 1 cmc spells occupying the majority of the deck, 20 basic Mountains ought to be sufficient to power through the early game without leaving us in need when it comes time to play our 3 and 4 drops.

Like the individuals comprising a Greek phalanx, each particular creature is merely average on its ownbut when functioning as a unit, indefensible assault and impenetrable defense come to bear. Jove be not jealous of these honest fellows, as each creature detailed below brings something special to our strategy.

Akroan Crusader makes for the perfect Turn 1 play. Initially he doesnt make much of an impact, but we are geared specifically to maximize his effectiveness on the battlefield. With the potential to generate numerous haste enabled tokens per turn, the faster we deploy a legion of these soldiers the better.

Satyr Hoplite becomes permanently stronger over time, and even spells that only temporarily buff it synergize beautifully with its inherent ability. One mana paid to cast Brute Force, for instance, will actually mean +4/+4 for our goat legged friendwith one of those +1/+1s sticking around for good. Its this permanency that earned this satyr a place over, say, something like Foundry Street Denizen.

Hero of the Games gives a rallying cry when targeted, invigorating all our creatures. This temporary anthem effect is a most welcome benefit.

Arena Athlete helps us push damage through while lessening the chances our army of weenies will be whittled down and rendered ineffective. Particularly useful against so-and-so can block any number of creatures spells and abilities.

Were particularly light on burn spells or other forms of removal, and thus Labyrinth Champions reusable ability is an excellent way to eliminate specific targets or help push extra damage through. Between this ability and Arena Athletes we stand a decent chance at finding an opening and running the ball to the end zone.

Its no secret our creatures are weak; they could use a bit of encouragement. Thus, over each head our laurels well spread, so from the opponent our creatures no mischief shall dread.

Brute Force is better than Infuriate; that extra +1 to defense may determine if it endures or is sent to the Elysian Fields. A lone mana for a buff of this size is extremely cost effective, temporary though it may be.

Coordinated Assault is very powerful here, owing to its versatility in being able to target 2 different creatures. Whether its taking advantage of the First Strike enhancement to use our weenies to out-weenie the opponents weenies , or pragmatically selecting specific targets to maximize the potential of their triggered abilities, this low costed spell is not to be underestimated.

Blades of Velis Vel lacks the combat awareness booster shot of First Strike, but compensates by granting +2 to power instead of only +1. Otherwise, it has the exact same useful characteristic of being a multi-target spell.

Playing an indirect supporting role are Lightning Bolt and Thrill of Possibility. A one mana burn spell that can be recast later is simply too good to pass over, despite being far and away the most expensive card in an otherwise ridiculously inexpensive deck. As for Thrill of Possibility, being able to rifle through our library a bit to find that perfect spell is usefulespecially when we can discard a cheap Instant or Sorcery to be abused later on with Harness the Storm.

Lastly, lets discuss our Value Engine, Harness the Storm. When used in conjunction with low costed spells with a high return rate, this card really shines. Between the various buffs and nerfs our creatures grant us and the large number of 1 mana Instants and Sorceries we run, Harness the Storm definitely pulls its weight.

We run 3 copies only, as unfortunately there is zero additional return afforded by having multiples in play; thus we want enough copies to ensure it gets played (use Thrill of Possibility if youre having trouble locating it) but not so many that the extras sit dead in our hand.

A prime target for Enchantment removal, expect to see it blasted away at some point. Fortunately the maindeck is perfectly stable enough to carry on undaunted despite its absence. Its simply a key that unlocks the full potential of the deck, not a crutch upon which it supports itself.

Establish a board presence in the opening turns with cheap 1 and 2 drop weenies, burning away enemy creatures competing for table space.

Cast the appropriate buffs targeting those creatures with abilities deemed most effective given the current situation.

Cast Harness the Storm when able, and begin viewing spells in your graveyard as an extension of your hand. Double dipping Coordinated Assault followed by a Brute Force and targeting a couple Arena Athletes and a Hero of the Games is pretty severe damage for a measly . Be mindful of the best combination(s) the situation may warrant.

Assault Strobe is here as opposed to the maindeck because I favor a go-wide approach rather than putting all my eggs in one basket (and at sorcery speed). Nevertheless, it is absolutely a viable card (as well as an excellent target for Harness the Storm), so its here to be rotated in as necessary.

Otherworldly Outburst hits most of the same highlights as our other buff spells, and can leave us a parting gift in the form of a useful token.

Weapon Surge is a reliable way to rally the troops and buff everyone simultaneously, if the Overload cost is paid. Bear in mind that paying the alternate Overload cost will not trigger any of our creatures innate abilities though.

Dual Strike opens up some interesting possibilities when coupled with Harness the Storm, and a small chunk of mana can rapidly escalate into serious damage.

For the days shall come upon thee, when thine enemies shall cast up a bank about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, and shall dash thee to the ground
