Hello everyone.Though I do not play it online, pauper might be my favorite format on paper.
At first glance this deck seems like a typical delver list.
You play you Delver.
You set up your flip.
You swing seven times with your Delver, protecting it with with whatever cards you dig up with your 23 cantrips.
BUT, there is something unusual about this deck. That's these cards:
These cards are designed to consistently 2-for-1 your opponent by both keeping them from resolving actions, and drawing fresh cards.
Whisk away punishes your opponent for thinking they can attack you (or block your delver.) Memory lapse punishes your opponent for thinking they can play spells. And Portent punishes your opponent for thinking they are allowed to play Magic. ;D
I have and play this deck on paper, and when I was developing the deck, my feature cards were given criticism for being thought as a bad version Unsummon, Ponder, and Remand. But when I began playing this deck against friends who play casual (and my modern decks would be unfair), I found out that they are actually super good.
When your able to Memory Lapse your opponent two turns in a row, and then Counterspell. It keeps your opponent from playing Magic one. Two it keeps your opponent from drawing cards two turns in a row. And three, because the deck curves out at 3-4, you still have mana to play your over powered 1-drops.
Apart from the feel-goodness off locking your opponent out of the game, you also feel good for drawing so many cards, and because of the severe amount of card draw in the deck (23 cantrips) it allows for the deck to play 18 lands.
The sideboard isn't insane, but it is helpful.
2 Doomblades for extra removal for decks such as Stompy and Zoo. 4 Blue Elemental Blasts for Burn and Goblins. 3 Tormods against ANYTHING running graveyard support. 3 More Whisk Aways for aggressive decks and for extra lock. And Darkness for yet more Time-Walking, as well as appreciation for the Shakespeare quote.
I hope some of you like this deck, as well as taking an interest to build and play it.I am always looking for feedback and if anyone has any suggestions for what might improve this deck, please be sure to log on and comment.
Thank you.
