This is my take on the awesome combo deck Elite Taactics and another version of it found on the MTG website here.
I really need help choosing lands. I'm not sure how to divide up land between colors in three-color decks. Shock lands are way too expensive for my wallet, and I'd like to stay away from scry lands for the time being. I can start switching scry lands in for guildgates when I have the money.
I built this deck because of problems I saw with its two "parents." The original version of Elite Taactics had no win-con outside of the combo. Even though it was able to win without the combo a few times in playtesting, I doubt I'd be able to replicate that feat. The revised version on the MTG website was a little bit pricey for me with the shock lands and Mizzium Mortars. I noticed that in testing the deck had problems with fliers. I liked the fact that the deck was capable of winning through tokens in addition to the combo.
In an attempt to fix the problems that I saw with both decks, I chose to use Spellheart Chimera and a LOT of instants. The chimera gives me a way of winning through using instants. Young Pyromancer also synergizes well with the instants, providing me with tokens to block against aggressive decks. The Elixir of Immortality is to use against a friend who only plays mill decks.
In case you don't understand the combo and don't want to look into the original Elite Taactics , I've copied his description of the combo:
The Main Attraction; Explained:
Lets say you're the average Joe magic player that is used to playing aggro and at first glance you didn't understand how this combo works. Here is an in depth explanation for you:
Elite Arcanist : when it enters play exile Triton Tactics with it.
Play Zhur-Taa Druid the same turn or earlier.
Next turn (after summoning sickness has worn off) tap Zhur-Taa Druid (dealing one damage to each opponent) use that mana to copy Triton Tactics via Elite Arcanist (the arcanist takes colorless mana so the green doesn't matter), cast the copy targeting Zhur-Taa Druid and Elite Arcanist .
Both get untapped and +0/+3 until end of turn. Because both are untapped you can repeat as much as your heart desires.
Because Zhur-Taa Druid deals one damage to each opponent whenever you tap it for mana this means that you repeat until your opponents are dead. Generally I try to keep Simic Charm in my hand during this in case they try to kill my combo pieces.
