As the name implies this deck makes your opponent stop what he or she is doing, drop a bunch of cards, and then die.
I was looking for a way to put together an inexpensive modern deck that could put some of the expensive decks to shame. This deck won't shame them every time, but it will shame them enough to not make you a lot of friends at the local modern tournament. While this deck is not currently budget, some easy changes will make it fit that bill.
This deck will keep your opponent from getting card advantage (or creatures, lands, and other things) by keeping the cards in their hand low. Almost everything is designed to empty their hands. One drops like
Blackmail
and Duress will get things started, while Wrench Mind and Delirium Skeins will drop them lower. One of the strongest cards is Raven's Crime and, because the mana curve is so low, you can afford to discard lands to keep playing it, especially with Dakmor Salvage running dredge.
Augur of Skulls
will take the roll of blocker or even help you clear more cards from your opponent's hand. With Waste Not benefiting you on each discard, you can really take advantage of your opponent's misfortune. With one Waste Not a Delirium Skeins can completely stack the board in your favor to an even greater extent.
Ultimately the trick here is
Shrieking Affliction
and The Rack taking your opponent's life total down every turn. With just one of each of these you can be draining 6 life a turn if you keep their hand low. Keeping your own hand low will sometimes happen, but you don't need to play lands every chance you get here, as long as you keep 2 swamps in play then you are set the majority of the game. In fact, a
Blackmail
with you choosing a land for them to discard can get you enough mana to play Raven's Crime from the graveyard twice as long as you can discard your own land, and if you know what they will have to drop (because of
Blackmail
) then you're either drawing cards or building zombies.
This deck will win you games, but it may not make you friends. I would love to hear any advice, but keep in mind that I want to keep the card price as low as possible in most cases.
Thanks!
