Instant (1)

This deck has already come a long way from where it began with thanks to the TappedOut community. The idea is, me and my friends are going to have a Christmas tournament, and I don't want them to enjoy it as much as I do. So aggressive, burn/control seemed the way to go. PLEASE keep the suggestions and comments coming, they are enormously helpful. Remember I am on a fairly tight budget, so no Thoughtsieze or Lillianas.

Credit to http://tappedout.net/users/tman007/ for http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/rakdos-control-is-better-than-esper/, which I heavily based the initial list on.

Basic Breakdown:

Creatures:

  • Young Pyromancer - Early game damage, plus free chump-blocking/attacking tokens all through the game.

  • Desecration Demon - Big bad finisher. Evasive fatty who, depending on my opponent's choice of grisly demise, either forces a sacrifice or takes a big meaty chunk out of their life total each turn.

  • Mogis, God of Slaughter - Though unlikely to ever become a creature in this deck, Mogis's effect helps enormously in slowly whittling opponents down. Limited to 1 copy by budget.

Instants:

  • Lightning Bolt - Surprisingly cheap, instant damage to the face. acts as removal and can finish opponents, all for one mana. How lovely.

  • Magma Jet - In a similar vein, can execute opponents, kill weaker creatures and allows me to set up the next few draws.

  • Terminate - Kill-spell of choice. Hits any colour, prevents regeneration.

Sorceries:

  • Blightning: This is not a true discard deck, but spells like Blightning prevent opponents from forming a coherent strategy and force them into topdeck mode early. 3 damage is not to be sniffed at either.

  • Duress: Great turn one disruption, depriving opponents of a counterspell, a kill spell or a useful buff. Combos extremely well with Slaughter Games later in the game.

  • Mizzium Mortars : Great for killing tougher creatures. Lategame, doubles as a one-sided boardwipe.

  • Rakdos's Return : Blightning's big brother. doubles as a finisher for opponents on low life.

  • Read the Bones: Amazing controlled card draw. Who cares about the life loss if your opponent is losing more?

  • Slaughter Games: Prevents opponents from ever drawing solutions to spells like Desecration Demon or Rakdos's Return . Combos with Duress forcing them to reveal their hand. Also rips combo decks apart.

Updates Add

On further testing, Slaughter Games comes up slightly too often, so I have swapped one copy to the sideboard for a third Blightning. -1 Slaughter Games, +1 Blightning

SIDEBOARD: +1 Slaughter Games, -1 Bightning
